The 20 seat restaurant where my daughter works in Philadelphia closed down suddenly yesterday. She and four other servers there now have no income for who knows how long. On her last shift she made $200 in tips which was just over half what she normally would have because of cancellations, but that’s a lot better than nothing. They aren’t officially unemployed so they can’t file for unemployment.

It’s a Japanese omakase restaurant that’s already so clean you could eat off the damn floor. They had it professionally cleaned and disinfected on Monday. Their bookings had dropped by half so they could easily keep people separated for social distancing.

Closing places like this is dumb. Many small restaurants are going to fail as a result of this. And a lot of servers are going to lose their livelihoods.

I don't remember who it was but a couple weeks ago one of the democrat media people let it slip that this could be an opening for the dems in the election

that's when my suspicion that this was 90 percent political was confirmed. These people aren't even smart enough to keep their mouths shut.

If they were intelligent which they're not they wouldn't bring trump up every ten seconds

OR they just made a true statement. The reason it is an opening is because this administration and repubs have crippled the govs ability to fight this. And now, right in front of everyone's eyes our 'president' is obviously not capable of helping us. The only thing he cares about is business. Your statements above show no solid chain of reasoning. You should stop talking about who is intelligent because you are undoubtedly one of the ones who keep voting for the politicians that are controlled by the money that has had a boot up our asses for the last 100 years.

Money (Republicans and Democrats) and Trump ARE the problem. THAT is why they keep bringing them up on the news. Conspiracy my ***. Money is the conspiracy. Wake up.

Can I answer with a question for everyone?
How about banning visiting people in the hospital? Seriously, I am asking your opinions.

I have a good friend who is in UL hospital. The same hospital that is testing for this virus. I am well over the age they are telling us to be extra careful. My wife is not only in that age bracket, but has a underlying health issue that puts her at even more risk.
The last thing I want to do is bring something into my house that could really hurt her.
My friend has been in isolation for a week. No explanation from the doctors yet what he has/had.
Would you go up there if you were me?
Tough decision for me.

I absolutely would not go, especially after reading what you had to say about your wife and her condition. It just isn't worth it and your friend and his family would have to understand during this current health crisis. If you were to pass on something to your wife and make her ill it would be the toughest thing to liv with, at least it would be that way for me. Just stay in contact with the family and let them know that your thoughts and prayers are with your friend and they should understand your reason for not risking to go see him. I know it's tough but think of your wife's health first would be my advice.

Churches are supposed to not have service today but it looks like some of them are not following our state gov's wishes.

Im all for God but what about preventing the spread of this virus?

Our church has decided to do an on-line only service.

The pasor will be speaking from the church, and I suspect the band the plays/sings will be there. But I'm interested to see how it plays out.

My small Episcopal church is closed through March 29. It is a tough decision to close during Lent and to close during a time of crisis when people need church. I remember the weeks after 9/11 when all the churches were packed.

There’s a church in Philly doing drive-through sacraments all day today. I might actually go there for it. I just found out I have possibly been exposed to the virus.

Right now, the testing is way behind the supposed transmission rate. Not sure how the governement knows that but some speculate that there could be thousands of citizens in the US that have it by now. Its because they have not been tested yet that the reports seem lower.

Also FWIW--I think it's iffy that we're banning sporting events and yet people are packing restaraunts and bars. All the blue hairs are still meeting down at the Dairy Queen for their morning coffee.

Still an awful lot of closeness when we're talking about social distancing and lowering the curve.

I though part of religion was to obey the laws of god and the land? They get to thumb their noses to taxes........I say let them pray to their god when they get sick to get well.........not that it will do them any good.............

If he is in isolation, I don't understand how you could see him, anyway. Call him on the phone and explain the situation, and give him encouragement. Tell him that once he is out of isolation, you will be visiting. Once he is out of the hospital, take him to lunch.

the thing with testing is that it is not going to stop the spread
you can get tested and be negative and catch Covid-19 before you get home

testing should mainly be used on high risk people
unless of course you want to test people everyday

Probably not.
I mean I am contemplating not going to Church today because of C-19 and I go almost every week.
I think as a society, until we fully understand what we are dealing with, we need to avoid large gatherings this side of the work place and the market which are essential for most.
Our church cancelled service today but the worship team and pastor will still have service to an empty sanctuary and it will be streamed live.

Stay safe my friends.

I can't understand how some do not think this is a serious situation.
I guess if I as 30 years old, I would see things in a different light. Even then, knowing that some virus that's going thru the entire world might not other me too much but potentially kill someone close to me, a neighbor, or a stranger for that matter, I would be concerned.
For those who blame Trump, saying he was not prepared for this, tell me what country, what leader was prepared for this mess?
Closing everything down is not good, but it is being done so by lessons learned from those countries who have already been thru this stage of the virus.
Would you want to be in the position to make a decision to close everything down knowing it would kill your countries economy, all the while trying to keep things going not to mention your military?
Trump is in a no win situation.
It was not this president who made the rules for the FDA or the CDC; it was this president who relaxed the rules so they could try and stop this virus.
Looking back at the swine flu and what Obama did and you could question many things he did and did not do.
It is easy to coach from your recliner.
As FDR once wrote, "The man in the arena" is so true today.

For those who think this is all about politics, tell the people in Italy or France this. I dislike the politics of Democrats, but they could not cause this much hell in the world. This is not about money or politics. Money is in the mix but only for saving a country from a recession.

For those who think this is all BS, it is folks like you that we all must be careful of. If you think this is all BS, then there is no doubt you are not washing you hands more these days, taking other precautions like we are being asked to do. It is because of those who refuse to make the necessary changes in our daily behaviors for the short term, we are all at a higher risk.
For those who think Trump does not have this country prepared, what would you say if he did what the France minister did and tell the hospitals to only treat those who have the best chance of living?
Yes, the USA will come out of this because most are listening to the medical people and doing what they ask. This will stop the spread somewhat and give them more time to deal with it.

I did not vote for the governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear only because he is a Democrat. I fear the policies of Democrats. Nothing is free, except maybe this virus. But I have to give our governor 5 stars for his leadership in all this.
This is real folks and most on here will never feel the pain others will if they catch this virus, but as a nation, just like BBN does with its basketball, we all must put our differences aside and work together.
When this is all over, we can go back to bitching all we want. Until then, it is a truly team effort on everyones part.

I for one am in the age bracket that matters. I want to see many more UK games along with my wife and grandkids. When this all passes, then we can point fingers and question those in positions above us at the ballot box.

I've got a few people I work with that swear they had this in Nov and Dec. After reading the description, I may have as well. I'd be willing to bet there are over 10k that either have it in their system or have had it, even if they don't show symptoms.

We should postpone telling people to wish really, really hard for it to go away, and start promoting real, scientifically proven preventative measures.

What "scuentifically proven preventative measures" would that be? They don't know sht about this virus, and like the cold and flu there is no cure.

The only scientific measure is to live in a bubble, but we can't all do that because someone has to be outside of the bubbles to take care of the people in the bubbles.

Please stop

I read in europe some where, they are thinking about herd immunity. Not sure what that entails, but if we have to go through this, I want to be prepared rather than unprepared. We really need someone to make an effective vaccine. that would bring business back and maybe even sports back quicker.

Tough decision for me.

Have same same circumstance with disabled wife having multiple chronic conditions of which CV19 is the perfect recipe for her demise. A mighty difficult situation with present circumstances.

No I wouldn't go up there imho. Tough call but family comes first.

It's the "golden years" for all of the leaches that profit off of those of retirement age and older.

When you turn 65, they lay you on the moving medical profession assembly line with a box of taxpayer's money on your chest and everybody in the profession starts taking what they need. I'm rolling down that line.

Trump fired the National Security Council’s pandemic response team in 2018 to cut costs. Their entire purpose would’ve been to hedge this months ago, but there was nobody at the wheel.

I am a registered Republican in Kentucky.

It may easily kill you and your wife - in a very terrible way.

If I were you, I’d be figuring out who had contact with your hospitalized, isolated, and ventilated friend and make sure you keep your distance from them for a couple weeks just to be safe.

Good luck.
