Top fuel and funny cars run 100 mph faster than that. I think 220 spread out is safer than 200 bumper to bumper.

They have greater down force and handle better. They weld sewer caps down for street races to keep the cars from sucking them up as they go over them

Sure it is (would be) . . . for the drivers. But restrictor plates at Daytona and Talledega have likely always been about something else. The worst thing imaginable is a race car floating into the stands, or careening with enough force to bust through the protective fence and kill several dozen spectators or more. If those cars were to flirt with 230+ mph, we would eventually see a liftoff to make Wallace's completely forgettable. No way will Nascar willingly risk it. Already the fence at Talledega has been put to a near maximum stress test with the restricted speeds. The facilities just can't allow for it. Most of the fans would at least appreciate it if Nascar would be honest about the RP purpose, respect even more the risks the driver's accept at the two tracks.

Sprint cars are for sure dangerous. Had the opportunity to catch a couple of races at the Concord dirt track few years ago. A couple a jam ups in the straight section did catch my attention for how rapidly those fast moving critters can bring themselves to a screeching halt. Not noting that as any statement for safety by any means, but it was one thing that really caught my attention about those machines. Driver reaction time had a lot to do with it I'm sure but it was like all of them suddenly stuck their plow in the earth.
Fun as **** to watch but almost unbearably loud.

I think right now, of the free agents coming up, he and Kesalowski have to be the front runners. Of course Hendrick could always offer one of the rookies that that are driving for 1 car teams if they run well this year.

He’s dead. No he’s alive but in serious condition. 2 days later see ya. Don’t know how the last part was even possible. Now the question is how long will he be out before we see him back in the car?
Another joke of a finish. The announcers didn’t even know it was over. Would’ve been a lot better without the late caution. Still can’t believe the top two pitted. What a terrible decision.
I legitimately didn’t remember that rule either. Is that a change? Thought it was just for overtime.
I was glad to see Johnson running better. He is making strides but still lacks a little to have a car capable of winning. If memory serves me correct Chevy ran well at Vegas last year but then went to some of the other 1 1/2 mile tracks and really struggled. The next 5 races will be key to see if they are truly going to be competitive or if yesterday was just a fluke. As a side note after the Toyota's failed inspection and had to adjust their body they ran like crap minus Truex.
Johnson has ran pretty good so far and he has 6 wins and an absolutely ridiculous average finish of 7.6 in 25 races at California. So if the Chevy is up to par with the new body style I look for him to be strong there this weekend.
“Strong” meaning Top 10 at best. That’s all we can hope for from the Hendricks team the last few years.
All 4 teams ran in the top 10 most of the day and Chase or Bowman would have won the race if not for bad luck and pit strategy. I think this new Camaro is a little more racy than years past.
I hope you’re right, but like I said, we’re hoping for anything better than Top 10 at this point. I think you meant “could have won”. Chase was great on long runs, but nascar races rarely are decided on long runs. Unless it’s Pocono. Bowman definitely had a shot. Still can’t believe the top two pitted. Everyone knew at that moment it was given to Logano. I’m getting ticked off again just talking about it.
I am still blown away but I believe they thought most of the top 10 would follow and they could pass the few slower cars. Either way it seemed like a bad decision. The race Sunday was as good as all of the Hendrick teams have looked at once in some time. There have been races where 1 or 2 looked good or decent but they all were strong all day. The next few races will tell the tale though.
Amen, brother. Me and my wife are longtime fans. Everything was cooking for most of the race. Unfortunately there are three teams dominating the sport the last few years, and Hendricks ain’t one of them. I assumed it would go bad at Vegas, and it did.
I follow a Twitter account "Drunken Brian France" and the guy does seem to have some connections as he has been right about quite a bit of stuff. He said yesterday that he wasn't sure how soon it would be released but Kesolowski would be announced as the replacement for Jimmie Johnson in the 48.
