Dreiling’s hire should free up more NIL money.

I know there are several quality offensive coaches who are head coaches that call their own plays. I believe most of them still have an OC, but they call their own plays, like at UT. But is there anybody out there that my failing memory can't summon up, who is an HC who is his own DC? Who calls the defenses. And is there anyone who does that without having someone called the DC.

And please don't bring Roof back.

As I recall, Pete Carroll called the defensive plays when he was at USC, but I don't think he micromanaged the defense full-time. He was more of a CEO, recruiter and motivator.

Gary Patterson called defensive plays for a few years while he was head coach at TCU.

The only thing I can think of is Brent’s inability to do two jobs at once. But head coaches handling the defensive/offensive calls isn’t uncommon. I think Brent needs to take charge for his own sake because this season is most likely make or break for his future at OU.
