Is Pitt the Rutgers of PA, or is Rutgers the Pitt of New Jersey?
Pitt should be great and at one point was pretty darn good, Rex Perry era. However, other than having a wrestling program the Pitt administration, nor Athletics leadership and obviously the monied alumni don't give a hoot about wrestling. Rutgers with their attendance numbers seem to actually care about wrestling.

I wouldn’t dunk too hard on DT yet. It’s still November, “National Tournament” or not.
Send it in Cael!!!!

@LemonPie unfortunately these clowns supporting this event are trying to torpedo the real crown jewel. That’s why Cael needs to keep doing what he’s doing.

He also said “I’ve been in this sport for 33 years and I’m not leaving until I see a National Dual Champion crowned. You guys (FLO), we all pulling the same way.” Of course FLO is. They don’t get to broadcast the real Nationals.

A bunch of self-serving hypocrites masquerading as in it for the good of the sport.

Trust in Cael. I love being wrong.

BTW - I never said anything about Facundo other than I am happy for his finding somewhere good to be a starter.

Chael was anointing him as a finalist.

Alex must save his best stuff for the room and just mentally shift gears (down) in matches. His highschool career was so frigging good. 0-2 today, yikes.

Alex Facundo would have pinned me in 15 secs when I was at my best.

That said, at the level at which he competes, he takes way too many straight on shots, from what I’ve seen, and clearing the arms doesn’t make it anything other than a straight on shot.

To take it even further, I feel like I’ve seen the same from other Michigan wrestlers.

All would have destroyed me, mind you, but I never tried to compete at their level.

And on a suspect stalling point, taboot. How we feeling about the Ryder/Welsh move now?
When Ryder first transferred everyone here was like “ Wish u da best except when u face PSU.” I think “ Ty for ur time here but don’t go off having a better career then Welsh.” Woulda been more accurate

Yeah. It’s complicated. Outside of diceman, no one posting here knows the story. We were excited for Ryder’s recruitment and confused by his leaving. Others that were here when another high-level wrestler arrived stayed and competed for the spot. So yeah - some of us are looking for justification that we needed to bring Welsh in at the expense of losing Ryder.

He looked really good. He had a pin and Major. I don't know how good his competition was.

He pinned Intermat #15 Bates from Missouri in 2:22. Not sure of score at the time.

Sounds like this is a decent event for wrestling junkies. I am shocked at the number of people trying to promote the event.......by bitching about PSU not being there. This is moronic at best. Talk about the great early season tests, match ups of returning stars and newcomers everyone is excited to see. Be positive. Just not positive you are pissed off because PSU isn't there. Of course most of these talking heads ( non coaches ) just want clicks. Ignore them.

Grow the sport......laughable. You are up against football. Most high school kids have matches.

PSU should go next year with starters and backups. Every backup gets at least one go. Win the thing, take the money and go home.

DT has a stable of freshman thoroubreds. It's everyone on his roster that isn't a freshman that seems to be holding them down. Lol
I like taking shots at DT probably more than anyone but ultimately he’ll be judged on this years freshman and recruits going forward. He’ll replace Ryder, Facundo, Swinderski if needed. He might replace Figs tomorrow even.

Fair enough, I’m not gonna pretend to know what’s going on behind the scenes, but hard for me to believe that coaches don’t know what they have in the NCAA event. I don’t think there is a collective effort to replace it. Tom Ryan is very obviously a mental case and I doubt anyone is looking to him as some ambassador for the NCAA product, but maybe I’m naive. To me, this event is nothing more than a revenue experiment with the added value of bringing eyes to Okie St.

They are probably losing money on this,
so I’m Interested to see where they go from here, but i still want to see PSU have a part in it.

Nailed it, I didn't quite know the particulars but for a while I've heard a lot of dummy say about growing the sport always means I need to make more money from the sport.

And Penn State is a huge big meanie because they won't help me make more money off the sport.

If anyone says grow the sport they are either dumb fans who just wanna see good matches or they're very hypocritical and they won Penn State to help promote them so they make more money..

I'm surprised to hear the number of people dogging this tournament. Who cares whether casual fans tune in. It's middle of November and we're getting a weekend of great, high-level wrestling. We're getting a ton of ranked match-ups that we typically wouldn't be getting this time of year. I'll watch this over the Luther Open any day!
Some of us didn’t have that option.

I believe it was mentioned before, but put it 3rd week of December and I'd wager Penn State attends. With all the free style competition dates second week of November is just too early, IMO.

Yes, and let's stick a fork in "PSU should go" and "PSU should send backups."

This event will always be the zombie national championship, even long after Ryan and Manning retire. Why enable that idea to keep coming back from the dead?

I see your point, but I wouldn't mind it around the 3rd week of December. There is a lot of duplication with the big ten schedule though.

Non-wrestling fans aren't watching this during football season.
Non-wrestling fans are almost never watching wrestling. Anytime anyone talks about growing a sport they are an idiot or they would benefit financially from what they're pushing for.

The Olympic sports were a huge thing very early in my life, I was born in 1963. They've been on the down slide since then.

Wrestling has grown nicely recently but it's always going to be a niche sport.
