I was looking at the WR committed since 2018, and I noticed something.... On the face of it, it looks like WVU has recruited a lot of WR's, but the vast majority either switched positions or transferred.
Sam James, Bryce Ford W, Winston Wright, Reese Smith, Kaden Prather, Sean Ryan
After next year, we are going to have serious talent+experience+depth issues at WR if NB is not aggressive in the 22 & 23 classes for both HS & transfers...
Mycah Pittman(Oregon transfer)
Xavier Williams(Bama transfer) - both 4 star hs recruits
Are two WR's off the cuff I see that would immediately add to both quality & experience, both with 2-3 years of eligibility remaining. Considering our offensive issues, which THIS YEAR has not been due to WR core, however NB's first two seasons we had serious problems from that group, mainly due to youth/inexperience & drops. Bryce & Sam James technically have two more years, but I think Bryce will probably leave for the NFL after next year.
We cant afford to solve 1 position problem(QB), then not have a quality WR core to fully utilize the versatility of the QB. You need 6 quality WR's in the group, to maintain good depth, explosiveness, and mitigate drop off from 1st & 2nd string.. Its a shame Sam Brown didnt have the patience or xyz to work out, cause he was obviously extremely talented, just needed a couple years to develop & learn that talent alone at the P5 level is not enough to be successful. Im definitely bullish on Kaden Prather, hes a beast, and will continue to develop & grow into being a high impact player in time... But, we'll need more then just 1-2 high-end WR's if we want to maintain offensive versatility.
The 22, 23, & 24 classes WR absolutely needs to be a priority to maintain the caliber of play we have seen this year, without significant yearly fluctuation of quality, if anything we hope that trend continues on that upward trajectory the next few years, but if thats going to happen, we need a few more playmakers in these classes that will actually play WR..
