"The biggest issue a lot of coaches and ADs had was the unknown factor. Who will be in your district and how will the IHSA divide up those districts? Will we be heading towards the Rich Township schools or maybe out West? Maybe we will need to travel down south?"

The above is the biggest surprise to me, as has been discussed on this board. How do you vote for a proposal that doesn't even lay out the expected districts?

Yup. I wondered in a different thread if there is going to be a lot of buyer's remorse based on how the district boundaries are drawn. It is one mile to New Trier's field from Loyola's campus, but there is no guarantee that the IHSA will include both schools in the same district.
