Bingo. There is too much money in college sports and you will attract bad actors. As much as I like college sports, I believe that reform is badly needed....

AAU basketball has been crooked for a long time and it isn't the fault of the kids.

If history has taught us anything, it's that organizations, corporations, governments, clubs, or churches, doesn't matter one bit what kind of group it is, when they fail, it will more often than not come from within the group itself....... and it certainly appears that the NCAA is rotting away from within itself.

In 2005, we were playing 'Cuse in the Big East title game. They have the trophy, banner, etc...we followed the rules.
"2005 Big East Tourney Champs by Default" just doesn't have the same kick.

As I've said before, the schools like WVU and other non-elite/blue bloods need to band together and sue the NCAA for a lack of institutional control. I'm all for punishing schools for wrong doing and breaking the laws. Even if that means WVU. However, the problem I see (as i'm sure many of you see) isn't the punishments. It's the lack of punishments for certain schools. As the OP mentioned how does WVU get 2 years for spider pads and extra practice time and Auburn get nothing for paying Cam Newton? How in the hell is Miami still alive and not placed on the death penalty? It's beyond ridiculous.

I don't follow basketball much cause it just ain't my thing. For me it's a 2-3 week season. I have heard certain things over the years while at alumni events.

One that always stuck with me from athletic dept folks was some of the coaches that are so highly thought of in the media are the biggest cheaters and phonies in the business. I've heard 2 basketball names that we used to see annually on our schedule. Calhoun @ UCONN & Boeheim @ CUSE. Glad to see some punishment even if totally weak and soft as well as late. At least it embarrasses Boeheim who wouldn't see the media after yesterday's game vs NC State.

This coincides with the new AD that came in at that time and fired Paul Pasqualoni back then. That AD allowed Syracuse to become corrupt! Selecting an AD with integrity was neglected!

That Cam Newton thing is strange. His father shopped him around and an Auburn fan paid him the $380,000 he wanted and Auburn get their quarterback. The NCAA didn't push the issue because there wasn't any proof that Cam knew what was going on so was innocent. WHAT? A Mississippi St. asst. coach said Cam was on the phone with his dad when Mr. Newton told him the cost to get his son to play for them. Miss. St. wasn't going to fork out the money.That asst. coach publically said that Cam was also on the phone and knew everything going on. $380,000 is a ridiculous of money.

Unc creates fake classes where student-athletes never did any work for DECADES and it's only an academic issue....because non-athletes enrolled (made up less than 10% of the classEs).
