It's funny, because it's true. Depending on the context, the whole place is either La La Land or the Peoples Republic of California, however you want to look at it.
I agree. I spent the worst part of 4 years there from 1964-68 while I was getting a degree from Cal Tech. I saw much of the rest of the state during breaks. Lovely scenery, but fruits and nuts grow in abundance. It was a lovely place to visit for many years afterward. Now it is a hell hole. It would be fabulous without most of the population and almost all of the government

I wouldn't go that far, there's still a lot of great things about life here. You've got to find your niche and build the life you want. The biggest problem is that too much of our once great cities are like a zombie apocalypse but that seems to be true for most of the big cities in the Western World.

Remnant of a past era where some weights had 35 guys, some 28 guys, etc. But they took 330 (it was 360 at one time when they took the D2 and D3 champs).

There were brackets with 40+ guys in the past I believe. Some with low 20s. The goal used to be the best 330 (or 360) regardless or weight. But they eased into 330, then at some point eased into just having an equal number for every weight.
I thought it was just rolling rock.

Does anyone know the history of why we have the 32/33 pigtail match? Considering we have at large bids, why do they qualify 33 instead of 32? I quite enjoy the pigtail match and am not saying to get rid of it, but what’s the history behind this?
I believe everything below to be accurate, some by memory, some looked up. Dates are close.

2009 to Present: 33 wrestlers exactly, one pigtail per weight class. Actually, there were a couple years where the brackets were considered 64-man brackets, everyone winning their first bout getting an EXTRA Advancement point. Now they are 32-man brackets with a true pigtail.

2019: Started seeding to 33.

2014 to 2018: Seeding to 16

1979 to 2013: Seeding to 12

1960's and most of 70's: Seeding was between 6 and 10 wrestlers

1972 to 1979: Top 6 were All-Americans. 1980 on, top-8 were All-Americans

1971 & prior: Consi brackets resembled repechage brackets ala freestyle today. In 1972, the consi brackets were expanded, but the tournament was not yet double elimination. That happened about 1986.

Regarding the size of the brackets, additional info to the first item above:
1960's through 1990: Most NCAA Tournaments consisted of more than 330 wrestlers. Biggest year was 1970, with 394 wrestlers. Largest weight class was 160 pounds in 1969, with 47 wrestlers.

Starting in 1991 (I think, maybe 1992), the brackets were skinnied down and the target was 330 wrestlers. Conferences voted on WILD CARDS, so the brackets were uneven. Compare that to today, with AT-LARGE selections and balanced weight classes. This is the period when the "330 wrestlers" became a thing.

Usually depends on where I am. If I'm in CA, I'll usually always say Carlsbad. When I'm back in the real world I'll go with San Diego. We're close to 30 miles north of downtown but SD city limits extend pretty far north, about 7 or 8 miles from my house.
And how’s the Transition going? Have you started to use the other type of public bathroom yet? 😀

If you thought California was a mess in the 60's...I left in '04 for a job, always assuming I would come back. I had a great childhood and couldn't imagine living anywhere else long-term. It's a totally different place - not in any good way - two decades later.

I'm close to 80 years old. My wife and I have found our niche. We moved to Fishers, IN. It's rated as the safest town in this state which also has a budget surplus. We avoid Indianapolis, which used to wonderful. We're no longer willing to make compromises with our lifestyles. My wife and I walk our two little dogs at 10pm every night and just wear an armband so kids on scooters see us and don't run into us or the dogs. I don't remember the names of every neighbor, but I do greet all their dogs by name and we carry treats for them.

We've downsized to 5000 square feet on just a quarter acre, but my wife has spectacular gardens all around the house. I hope you love your life in California. I never felt I fit in there. I never understood people hosing down their sidewalks every day while living in a desert. My cousin, the daughter of my mother's identical twin, has become so stridently left wing that we can no longer communicate. I used to help her out as much as I could when she was growing up, giving her my first car, some furniture and clothes and taking things to her when she was in school in AZ. It's sad to lose family when they're still alive.

The rematches. It used to be they seeded to 12 and avoided conference v conference until the quarters. The biggest complaint was too many Big10 and Big12 competitors wrestling in the quarters.
Are you implying that the potential rematches occurring in the early sessions are meant to reduce how many Big 10 and Big 12 end up in later sessions?

Life is getting better. We took some serious losses to dump our home in "Crook" County, IL. We bought our current home, made some good investments and can spend a fair amount our lives donating time and money to save animals. We've done animal rescue for over 35 years. Life is not just about what you have. Looking back over my life, I'm most satisfied by what happens after I try to give help to those less fortunate. "Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." There's a lot more in the Bible than Psalms. I must admit that you chose the key 1 from which all else follows.;)

No implying more like inference, evidence based. By separating conference foes then Big10 and Big12 wrestlers were not knocking off each other in earlier rounds, instead lower finishing Big10 competitors were regularly beating higher placers from other conference tournaments. Therefore seeds wrestle from their earned spots, with some obvious manipulation (Starocci 9th).

Yep going to seeding 33 definitely took away the no conference matches in round 1 which I liked .

On Chuck's "Cryptic ball" I had to erase my Duke/Larkin semi pick three times. Idk? Something smells fishy.

The problem with jax being the one is davino beat the guy ahead of him to win a conference championship. Jax beat somebody ranked below him and jumped davino in the rankings. When has that ever happened before

Wartburg won its 17th D3 title. NIL is ruining the sport. No program should be that dominant. It’s bad for wrestling.

Last year Wartburg tied with JW for 1st.
The last 30 D3 championships Wartburg won 17 times with the tie and Augsburg won 13 times. In the last 6 years they both have 3

My wife spent her last months of rese enlistment there last year, wonder if it was the same base. On a side note, my brother just got pulled out of Syria and coming home early. I’ve been nervous about that lately especially.
Was a missile site outside Travis AFB.
