NCAA issued a statement saying refs blew goaltending call

Officials can have bad calls - it happens in games.

But that one was a game-changer. Without doubt. Then, to pour salt in the proverbial wound, you call the T on Collins (who, admittedly, was WAY too far out on the floor protesting). You blow a call like that, you have to swallow the whistle on the T.

Would the 'Cats have won? Maybe not - but we'll never know now. Horrible way for this season to end, especially for Sanjay and Nate.

They should be docked their pay. Just atrocious bias refs. Should not be able to ref anymore games in this tournament

I'm going to print out that statement, take it with me to Gibson's, wrap it in a couple hundred dollar bills, and use it to get a nice steak dinner.

Better yet, keep that statement, and tomorrow morning when you have to take a dump after eating that nice steak you'll have something to wipe with.....

You can be quite sure that these three are done for the year. After that.

Yup. The NCAA usually waits until the next day to comment on a call like that. They barely waited until the game is over, which is their way of telling everyone that they were ticked off.

And there is also an unwritten rule that, if you clearly screwed up the call, the coach has to practically tackle you to get a T (witness our recent game against Maryland, where Turgeon was far more in the refs face on TWO calls that were horrendous that favored us and did not get a T).

Basically, the refs compounded the error, influencing the entire game. If they ref another NCAA game, I would be shocked. Just atrocious.

I love Collins' reaction to the NCAA mea culpa in this story:

You guys played a great game, beginning was painful, but wow you had all the momentum in the second half. I cannot tell you how many calls went to Gonzaga, just shatty. Pretty good for a 10-8 team from the "down" B1G.

Bad call resulting in a northwestern loss?
Hmmm.....I suppose the only recourse is to have Fitzee's Bottom write another Illini hit piece in the Tribune.

Pretty hilarious number of Illini fans on here crowing about our controversial near-victory over a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. How'd your tourney go this year?

Does hiring Brad Underwood really get you guys that fired up?

Exactly!

2/7/17: Fighting Illini 68 @Purple Kitties 61
2/21/17: Purple Kitties 50 @Fighting Illini 66

Can't you even troll correctly? Was obvioualy talking about the real scoreboard, the one that says "Northwestern NCAA 2nd round" and "Illinois, NIT(???)". How is that even possible with TWO sixth year seniors and an NBA player? With the level of talent you had this year, you should be so embarrassed that you shouldn't be showing your face on any opponent's message board who finished ahead of you in the standings....

Nothing to do with Underwood.
Rather, more to do with Fitzee's Bottom, Colbert, Haugh, Seth Meyers, Elaine, etc. Have some humility and you'd probably have more fans in Chicagoland cheering for the Purple Kitties. @ColmbusCatFan1: watched the whole thing....most people at the bar were laughing at the Cats' ineptitude.
Yes. Illinois has a huge following of non-alumni fans in Chicago. I don't know anyone that is not from central and downstate Illinois that roots for Illinois. I am not even trolling. Does anyone have a friend who didn't go to Illinois that is a fan?

Glad I didn't watch the game with the dimbulbs you mentioned.

I have a hunch those same individuals are fans of Champaign-Urbana's Big Ten team. It does makes sense after all. Illinois fans have clearly forgotten what a quality basketball team looks like!

FWIW, jealously doesn't look good on Orange ; )

That blown call was not a 4 point swing, but a six point swing, NU lost 2 from the shot in, they got 2 free throws and also got the possession after the free throws. Huge swing in momentum at the end of the game

Drinking alone at a basement wet bar isn't healthy behavior.

My god have there been a lot of you around here lately. I absolutely love that seeing us in the tournament has you all riled up.

Solid avoidance of the question.
