There aren't many people in wrestling who communicate with lots of staffs who aren't in the media. Obviously people have friends who work here or there but that's not what Im talking about. Pat doesn't bother me
I read things, know people and have a friend or two. :)

I agree with you. He may be a little fast on the draw with breaking news, but probably because he really did hear things. Until someone goes public, it’s not official. That being said, with a little seasoning, he’ll learn when and when not to hit that “send” button.

Anyone want to put in predictions of when we see the first portal entry, who it’ll be; and who the biggest name in the portal will be this offseason?

Brayden Thompson will be a big name from a recruiting pedigree that is already essentially in, but he clearly hasn’t lived up to the hype. Doubt he is the biggest name in there though. Would expect Jordan Williams to be back in the portal after what Iowa did with him. Fully expect Braden Davis to portal.

The universe of guys who want to transfer here is growing. The universe of guys we'd be interested in is shrinking. Outside of PSU starters (who aren't going anywhere) I'm not sure there is anyone in the country at 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 197, or 285 who would be worth pursuing.

I can make a list pretty quick of the guys who I think would consider transferring and who could make us better. Nicco Ruiz, Joey Blaze, Chris Minto, Cam Steed, Aeoden Sinclair, Max McEnelly. That's about it. If you can't land one of those guys, I think you just work on improving the guys in the room.

You might also think about flipping someone who is committed elsewhere... Surely Jayden James would rather wrestle like an OSU freshman than a PSU freshman. Unless he has an affinity for third-place bouts.

We Damn near had James before penn st scooped him up. He's one I'd really like to steal.

I counted 4 guys graduating and so far 1 guy transferring...

5 guys coming in (including Jax), so who would that leave possibly hitting the road?

Jamison (141), Hughes (133), and maybe McComas (133/141) hitting the road? They're clearly not going to overtake Jax and Vega in any scenario at this point (barring injury)..

Do we run with Hayden Simpson get a shot or do we hit the portal for a top level HeavyWeight??

Hear me out. Dee redshirt. 165 - Facundo, 174 - Ryder, 184 portal (Sinclair) lol
I like this but think if Cody could move down to 184 it would be best for him. Barr still has 2 years. I love Cody but just don’t see him or anyone else beating Barr. Muncy can go 197 or transfer portal.

I love James and would definitely not turn him down, but PSU has one more year of messenbrink at 165 with basically no one behind, and has William Henckel (Top 15 overall) at 174 with 4 years left. We have 3 stud freshmen (Lockett, Routledge, Guerrero) at 165 and Facundo for another year at 174. So unless someone is moving up, sure seems a better spot for him at PSU.

If Lockett, Routledge, Guerrero, or Facundo were getting the job done, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Jayden James would be an unquestioned Day 1 starter in Stillwater.

Lockett TF James at U20 WTT last year if I remember correctly. Not sure if Kody or Ish have wrestled him, but I think it's unfair to say unqestioned starter over at least Lockett and Kody.

I think a lot of folks expect PJ Duke to go up to 165 sooner rather than later as well, at least based on what I’ve seen from PSU folks on social media. If he redshirts next year and Kasak comes back at 157, then he’ll be the heir apparent to Messenbrink at 165 in 2027.

It seems insane to me that he would redshirt. He was OW (with Jax) up until Robidawg got him lol. Is there no chance Mesenbrink slides up to 174 I wonder. Kasak 157, Duke 165, MM 174.

Duke is very large. Messenbrink could go up to 174 since Haines is gone and Duke to 165.

If we had a chance to get James you would have to jump at the chance. Also, Jax and Sergio can make 133 and 141 they should go there because their length is a big advantage and they aren't the strongest guys. 2028 they could take an Olympic redshirt and the Raney's, Ramirez could take those spots. With the shirts and seniors who are done we would have openings at 125, 133, 141 and 149. With James and Lockett we likely would have stars at 165 and 174. I should say I don't see James leaving Penn. St. The only guys leaving are guys where they have better wrestlers at that position. Also unless he grows you leave Robideau at 157, he is not a big 157 actually seems a bit small but boy does he have fight in him.

The Raney's probably have a higher chance at wrestling in the olympics than anyone other than Jax. Both are U17 Greco medalists and Jordyn was our rep last year for the senior team (lost in quarters). Not sure them filling in for the olympic year is what I would expect as of now. I honestly wouldn't be super surprised if they redshirt, then olympic shirt either.

Exactly. For ol Trav here to say he would be an unquestioned starter over an overall #1 in Dee or even our other overall top 15 guys is crazy. I like the kid and he can score in bunches but just like we’ve seen with Dee EARLY in his career, you just don’t know what you are getting. Also, we can all agree he had a terrible tournament, but LOTS of eventual top 5 guys had bad first tournaments.

That’s what I was thinking. MM is gonna win regardless of which weight class he’s in. Duke hinted in post match that he might be moving up but Penn State is like us with lots of options.
