Believe he had already completed his 5th year but mightve been eligible for 6th due to covid.

The middleman (NCAA) was put in place by participating colleges to enforce fair play rules for everybody and without much surprise eventually morphed into a corrupt buffer for university presidents and administrations. The NCAA, while still corrupt, is becoming less and less of a buffer and eventually will be replaced with something representing the interests of both the universities and student-athletes. It would not surprise me if several schools find the path blazed many years ago by the University of Chicago and step away from big-time sports and concentrate on academics and participate in division 3 sports.

I think some will, but probably only the ones that don’t see much marketing value from big time sports.

That’s really the main reason this monster continues to be associated with universities - the marketing aspect. I understand the argument that it’s really the money, but universities will take money from anyone willing to give it for whatever reason. The marketing and visibility aspect of athletics is what generates the money.

Had heard several weeks back that he was being offered a decent amount of money to jump in the portal similar to situation with Buchanan. OU doesn’t really have money to make it even close to competitive with what they are being offered.

How much money is really being offered to a heavyweight, who has no bonus point potential, and who is at his absolute ceiling is a low AA and is draw dependent to even make blood round…

Edit: That’s not meant as a slight to Josh at all, even making the blood round is an amazing athletic accomplishment, and I love to see all Oklahoma kids succeed, but my point is I’d take any speculation about what NIL money is being thrown around with an even larger grain of salt than most other rumors.

Coaches can be pretty arrogant. Maybe they think they can coach him to AA level.

Or maybe its a desperate team that doesnt have any good recruits at heavyweight and missed out on the transfers they actually wanted.

Trust me it was a lot more than I thought he was worth; it has been probably a month since I heard so I really can’t remember the dollar amount mentioned. And with all NIL, who knows what the real number is that they get, but this was coming from the parent of one of their wrestlers. I don’t have any love for OU but this crap annoys me. luring kids into the portal with promises of money. I can’t really blame the athlete for taking the pay day though, as I would do the same.

They have Nitzel who beat Christian Carroll last year in an Open in Missouri. Schools that would give a 5th year senior who is ranked 10th much NIL money I think are making poor decisions that will end up costing their wrestling Program over time. I would go with Nitzel who likely would have a very close match with Heindselman. Could be based on not liking him much based on matches with us.

100%. If a program is paying him decent NIL money it is not the sign of a good program.

I really haven't paid much attention to Mizzou's nationals results, but if you take the average of the last five nationals (not counting 2020), you get ...

Crazy similar actually but how they get there couldn't be any more night and day. A marked dropoff at OSU since covid, while Mizzou has been steady Eddie the whole time. OSU seems to hit for extra bases much more often and Mizzou is getting singles.
