I have heard Steve Lutz has had a similar experience.
Would that be 200k a year or for the rest of their eligibility?
The college sports world is crazy if we would pay 200,000 dollars each for Swiderski and Facundo. Worse would Iowa pay more than 300,000 dollars each for Williams and Bailey. Wrestling does not make much money, so how can this happen. NIL donors, I guess.
It looks like we will not get a Hendrickson or Hamiti. It is looking like we will get Amine and Fish this year. Earlier in the year my thought was we were not going to get 2 superstars from the portal. However, I would love it if I was wrong.
When does DT go to Chad Richison and say if you want me to kick the teeth in of Cael and Brands, gonna need more NIL? Clearly if he had the funds for NIL, he’d be nipping at the heels of Cael! Are there other big money donors for wrestling? DT can only do so much… all about the Benji’s!
Pressure of 30 man rosters and the desire to compete will shake a few more out, I bet.
You guys will land Facundo and he is in Stillwater right now. In my opinion he is the best wrestler in the portal. AJ is the surest finalist but Facundo is not far behind. I would think Facundo goes 74 for you guys and will be a very nice replacement for Hamiti. Personally, I think Swiderski is a bust. I would bet Jamison goes up to 49 and Swiderski has no chance to beat him. I would take Cael Hughes over a sucked down Swiderski at 41.

Swiderski is a former AA and I do not think we are paying him anywhere near what has been said in an above post. Looking at Facundo's collegiate matches gives me a great deal of hope for his career. Not sure what his story is as he did not wrestle at all in 2024, but beat some pretty good wrestlers in 2023, but seemed to struggle in the post season. Almost like he was battling an injury as he had much better wins during the season as opposed to the losses late. I trust David Taylor in his ability to judge talent. Not getting Walsh was a disappointment, but I would guess we tried.

Feldman would be great but the rumors all seem to be saying Penn State.

I did see a guy who’s pretty plugged in on another OSU board say that there were rumblings Richison was with DT when they were trying to meet with Welsh.
So why didn’t Facundo wrestle in any open tournaments last year? Was he injured? Also, would he have 2 or 3 years left? Thanks in advance.

Facundo didn’t wrestle after black knight so he could get a medical. He’ll have 3 years of eligibility
Two kids that did not AA this season and getting paid all of that money shows Iowa is desperate. If Bailey bumps to 141, that's not going to do much for Iowa, because 141 is definitely going to be pretty tough next year. As for Williams, he showed how thankful he was to Erisman and Little Rock after they gave him a lifeline back into the sport. He is going to get some money into his pockets and go back to being an idiot. Should have stayed in Little Rock.
If we're to believe Mineo, Iowa far exceeded the $300k offer he got elsewhere. Hard to blame a kid for not turning down that kind of money. I hope he can stay on the straight and narrow and he finishes one place below our guy.
Heard he beat Kasak 8-3 in a wrestle off and lost 2-1 and 2-1.
And there is NO chance Swiderski goes 157. You take away all his finesse. He is small and not strong enough.
If I was Zach Ryder, I would stay at PSU because I think he beats Welsh all day long. Folks in the know say no way but Welsh has very limited offense and had the easiest path to the finals ever — really only beating Ed Ruth.

I agree with you on Welsh, limited offense against good opponents. Which we already have in BT lol. But Welsh defense is elite which is way better than BT.
We are hoping BT learned a thing or two being with DT whole of last year. Is Feldman really an upgrade over Doucet? I don't know.
But I am not ready to say Swiderski is a bust just yet. He has a lot of offense and untapped potential. I think one of the two years remaining, he will definitely be AA again if not more than that.
Don't think Robideau beats whoever we have competing at 157. Teague or Jamieson. So Robideau will RS.
Feldman is definitely better that Doucet. He had a down year this year but he placed 5th before that I think.
Yeah as much as it’s a crummy deal for LR after giving him a life line, that’s life changing money.
What do you guys think of Vega going 41 next year? He looked like he might be ready for it last night, he's going to be a good one.

I’m not worried about our NIL. I don’t think DT is blindly going after every top kid in the portal either. It’s a fine line of bringing in the best talent but the right talent. Last year was build momentum, this year is build the foundation. I do think we have missed on some kids like Welsh but I don’t expect it to be due to a lack of funds.
Him having interest and that becoming reality are two different subjects.
Similar to other high profile commitments, we were blocked or short-timed.
So I wouldn’t say it is lack of, but kids are getting paid to remove our countering abilities.
I’m also interested in marrying Sydney Sweeney. Doesn’t mean she’s answering my calls
BT did not look much different at the beginning of this season than he did a year ago. Maybe there is a different facet to his game that we have not been privileged to see yet. He seems to base all his offense on a good defense or a lucky scramble. Either way, not super fun to watch.
That line could probably stretch around the entire world.
