Not a big surprise but still a loss for kids and families.

So no longer can any FBS schools host camps off campus, so no more Illinois one day camps at various locations.

Blame the Michigan's and the SEC's of the world on this one.

Overall it's a real shame on several levels. Kids and families benefitted by satellite camps because it made more economical sense to go to a one day say at Gately as opposed to say Champaign.

FCS schools (for now) can host satellite camps but the FBS schools won't be able to cover these...while the FCS schools can also cover the FBS camps (as always).

Example: The Northwestern showcase used to attract coaches from all levels including several MAC schools...now just FCS (old iAA) and below can and will still attend the Northwestern showcase,

Once again the NCAA shows it only cares about $$$$ and not the kids and their families

As Edgy pointed out, Illinois, as far as I know, only did satellite camps in the State of Illinois. The following was the problem that caused the NCAA to act;

"Penn State’s camps in Georgia and Florida in 2014 were among the first to raise the ire of SEC coaches, but Harbaugh took it to a new level when he arrived at Michigan. The Wolverines staff participated innine camps across seven states last June."
"The NCAA prohibited programs from hosting camps more than 50 miles from their own campus, but several Big Ten coaching staffs, especially Jim Harbaugh and Michigan, have taken advantage of a loophole and participated in camps (which were hosted by other schools) as guest coaches."

The ACC and the SEC banned their coaches from taking advantage of the loophole.

In any event the kids are the ones that bear the brunt of the damage done by the implantation of the rule.

You may not agree with the rule, but what does it have to do with the NCAA only caring about money. How does limiting camps bring more money to the NCAA?

The meat market at the Sound Mind Sound Body camp won't be able to happen anymore with the big time coaches there. I know there used to be a ton of FBS coaches there. It's definitely a shame for the kids that were much closer to an Illinois suburb camp at a Maine South for example then traveling down to Champaign. It's definitely more of an inconvenience. The FCS schools should be licking their chops with this one though.

Are there any loopholes. Can anyone, say myself host a camp, and have all the coaches come observe.

But how is that any different than when coaches come in to schools now and watch kids workout ? I wouldn't be employing them to work the camp. Just to come sit in the stands and watch, record, do whatever it is they do. How would it be any different than the camp you (edgy) run and invite coaches to watch. I just think these could be done on a grander scale. But I've only read articles on the subject and not into the detail the NCAA has put out.

Lots of NCAA issues you can't get past. The only showcase that allows coaches on hand that I run is the new Senior Only showcase in December and that is also advertised at every camp/showcase I run upfront....and that's because of the timing and the recruiting calendar. Sound Mind Sound Body ran these type of camps for years and are the most impacted by the ruling. One of the only reason they were allowed was because they also run an "educational" aspect plus they are considered a charitable organization which exempts them from various contact rules etc.
