Fish is the only one that got a decent draw.
So Fish likely gets Brandon Cannon in Rd2 from Ohio State. I watched quite a bit of BIG wrestling this year. I don’t remember that dude and he wasn’t at CKLV. Is he a true freshman? Did they roll him out after Sasso retired?

Iowa didn't do great either, although I'll admit you guys got the worst of it. Jacori Teemer really got screwed. He has a round of 16 with Shapiro. That's brutal.
Teemer got absolutely hosed! I hate Iowa but that is BS. It’s basically the same situation with Figueroa, hurt all season and didn’t do well in the conference tourney and they hooked up Figueroa and screwed Teemer.

Hamiti gets that NC State wrestler likely in the 2nd match. I think he wins again but he kinda struggled with him and Singleton won 174 in the ACC.
Yup! Super tough 2nd round matchup. He's the guy that got mouthy with Dean, so I know he'll be ready to go

I like Spratley’s draw. Ramos will be tough in the Quarters but if he wins, he likely gets Ventresca, who Spratley majored. Ventresca did beat Robinson of NC State twice however. Ventresca will have to beat Strickenburger to get to the semis but he has already done that this year.

I like Teagan’s chances against Bartlett. He wrestled Mendez pretty close in CKLV’s. I’m glad Happel is on the other side of the bracket, it’s like he is Tagen’s kryptonite.

If we wrestle to seed, then we'll have 7 All-Americans. I think Fish and Travis will wrestle better than their seeds.
Cam wrestles Nick Hamilton from UVA his first match. Hamilton was an ACC champ last year. He was a 2 seed in the ACC’s and finished 2nd this year. He’s a short 165 wrestler. Cam should win but hope we see the Cam that wrestled in the Cons. In Big 12’s. He’s got to attack early and stay aggressive. Probably a decision win.

Trumble hurt his knee and semi finals. Finished the match, but lost. Then defaulted to 6 and ACC had 5 HWT spots
Did you go to the ACC Tournament? I saw they had it at Duke. Duke got 1.5 points in the whole tournament. They’re not giving scholarships for Wrestling right? Wonder how long till they cancel their program? Kinda sad, I know their coach is an OSU alum.

Glen Lanham is the head coach and Tom Erickson is assistant, so strong OSU connection. Wrestling is unfunded at Duke and has been since before Clair Anderson (another OSU connection). They do not have wrestling scholarships, preferred admission standards, or wrestling financial aid, so the students have to meet all academic requirements for admission and be able to pay tuition or get academic scholarships, loans. That makes it very difficult to compete with NC State, VA Tech and other ACC schools. Their HWT is the only one that qualified for NCAA and only one other won a match at conference tournament.

I did go to the tournament as I like to support Coach Lanham and the athletes. Wrestling doesn’t cost as much at Duke as other programs as most of their duals are driving distance (only flew to CA for Stanford and a couple others in Nov). I don’t think it gets cut soon, but hard to be competitive given the lack of institutional support.

I met Coach Lanham once, he is a super nice guy. I didn’t know Tom Erickson was there. Was this unfunding recent because they’ve been a little more competitive in the past? I live near Virginia Tech and went over for the NC State dual. Since I live out here I do keep up with ACC wrestling. I went out to Big 12’s so I didn’t get to see much of the ACC tournament. Do you think that injury will affect Trumble at Nationals? If it does, I bet Wyatt sees the Pitt HWT instead.

It has been un funded has been a long time. They have always had a few good guys- 2 or 3 good hwt and then had the Finesilvers- 2 sets of twins that were all good- Mitch was an AA at least once and others weee close- round of 12.

I didn’t realize Trumble was hurt, but he lost to the Pitt guy I believe, then defaulted after that. My sense is he is ok and knew he could get a wild card so didn’t want to risk anything once he lost, but just an opinion from watching the match. There are some good wrestlers in ACC, but not as deep. Reminds me of the big XII when we had 5 teams.

Clair Anderson was a national champ for OSU in 1983- beat an ou guy in the finals. He was the Duke head coach before Lanham and the coach before Clair felt they could be competitive, so they moved funding elsewhere to comply with title 9. And I agree Coach Lanham is a great person and good for the program.
