Big ten hasnt won a title in 23 years. The big ten is garbage. Time for coach to stop pretending its even a decent league and build for march.

If I have to hear a presser start one more time with, “wanna thank the fans, band, cheer team, dance team, riot squad. Tough one, best league in the country.” Ill throw my ****ing phone through the tv
You ignored everything I said.
I said the top of the conference was horrific relative to most
But again, it’s a deep conference in the sense that there isn’t much of a bottom. The problem is the top doesn’t compete for titles.
That doesn’t mean the entire conference sucks. You can’t say the B1G is worse than the ACC or PAC 12 with a straight face.
The conference does well in OOC play every year

speed, guys that can rise up and hit shots in the lane, a couple shooters that can get hot from 3 along with energy hitting the boards seems to be the winning formula in March

I think the winning formula in March is “Get hot”. There’s a reason nobody is able to ever forecast March madness even close to correctly and that there lacks much of a basis between which teams win and lose.

ESPN did a nice breakdown of the Purdue loss. Bilas seems generally upset. Perfect combination of FDU doing everything right almost perfect.
Purdue doing everything completely wrong, completely "frozen", devoid of making adjustments, playing scared to lose from the GetGo. They particularly honed in on the small FDU guys playing so low that they were Ninja like and incessantly harassing Edey almost ground level like a bunch of hungry gremlins. Truthfully if Purdue played that way against any other Big ten teams they would get murdered.

FDU was the better team

Part of this is on officiating like DJ Carstensen, Scirotto, Szelc, and the rest of these old school B1G 10 refs that call the game a certain way for these original members of the B1G like Iowa, Purdue, etc and when they don't get these same calls in the tournament from other refs in other conferences never does these teams any favors.
The referees are working all different conferences...there is nothing different about the three guys that called the Purdue game last night from the guys we see all season in the Big Ten.

So did I see that right #1 Perdue lost to #16 FDU. LOL

I think we may be overestimating the quality of B1G basketball.

I don’t get it . Because rutgers has stunk for years until pike, you can’t enjoy the tournament ?

Not this year. If I see a pumpkin it reminds me of the RU BB season. Too much pain.

(Plus I'm not really a huge hoops fan anyway)

You sure about that?
Look at the three refs on that game last night...

Chris Beaver - Does many Big Ten games...just did the Rutgers-Northwestern game in Chicago last Thursday.

Brian Dorsey - Does a ton of Big Ten games...worked Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at the Big Ten tourney in Chicago. Last time Rutgers saw him was 2/14 at the RAC against Nebraska.

Clarence Armstrong - Doesn't do as many Big Ten games as the other two, but he's in the rotation. He did Rutgers' comeback at PSU a few weeks ago.

This whole narrative is out there that "Big Ten refs" somehow impact things, but these "Big Ten refs" are also working SEC, ACC, Big 12, Pac12, and NCAA games. It's so overblown, but it gets repeated again and again to the point that it's taken as fact.

Refs are not exclusive to any conference, but that also doesn't mean all refs work all conferences. They go where the money is, as far as they are comfortable to travel. You won't frequently see the same guys working WCC and NEC, for example, but major conference refs generally will work multiple major conferences and the tournament. There aren't B1G refs, but there are those we'll see more or less frequently.

Painter got out coached and it was embarrassing! Credit to FDU
At a certain point the players have to execute the game plan. I'm sure Painter wasn't telling them to ignore Edey through most of the second half and not get him the ball. I'm sure he wasn't telling Gillis to pass up shots.

Edey was trying to tell the guards on the court what to do to get him the ball, but they were too slow to act.

Agreed! I find it crazy how much the refs keep being brought up and not just with RU? The calls at the end of the Kennesaw game were atrocious.

Fair and I agree about the execution and would normally just wash this away as March madness. However, 3 years in a row speaks to his offense and defensive philosophies. Also his ability to adjust when teams work to take away your first option. Last years team had 3 NBA players. You can’t lose to a 15 seed.

I do agree with him we are in the BEST conference....overall. That includes Academics, sports, campuses & tradition.

Throw out Penn State and we are in the conversation for the best sports conference. SEC probably one but Big Ten would definitely be up there if you consider ALL sports! Just football and basketball the conversation gets interesting but still would put Big Ten 2nd.

Determining conference strength based on who wins the tournament is illogical. It's one team out of 14 or so

OSU was second to last. They would smack the bottom of these other conferences

Top to bottom B1G is always very very good. If you want to move them down a spot or two bc they don't have the elite top end, sure.

If a conference has a few very very good teams and the bottom is trash does that make the conference better? I'd say no. Have to look at the entire conference and not pretend the bottom of the conference doesn't exist

Agreed, just look at MINN in the big ten garbage. The reason I would tip the scales towards the SEC is their depth. It’s a good debate but big ten definitely in the conversation and will become stronger with the new schools coming.

Was referring to their depth in football! Basketball is a much closer conversation because of what you outlined . Basketball they have Bama, Kentucky, Tenn, Mizz, AM , Auburn etc.
Still putting SEC 1 but it’s close

This is the basketball board. The SEC dominates college football. Isn't that a universal truth?
