Going to bump this because it seems a little significant... NCAA has ruled that player can only transfer once without sitting out and that scholarships are guaranteed through eligibility. Seems like this is important.
CORRECTED:
I know they (player friendly advocates) originally pushed for immediate eligibility if a player chose to transfer 4x times during their 4 years of college. This would’ve meant a player could’ve transferred after each season to a different school and then been immediately eligible to play. The committee tabled any decision back on August 3rd for at least 30-Days. I found that after our original discussion.
Example on how some wanted the rules;
1st year John Doe at NU
2nd year John Doe in Portal & transfers to Bama and immediately eligible.
3rd year John Does in Portal & transfers to UF and immediately eligible
4th year John Doe in Portal & transfers to FSU and immediately eligible for final college year
this dead proposed rule would’ve been a nightmare. The new rule just approved is much better imo. However, the NCAA hasn’t been consistent even regarding the old rule and approving most immediate eligibility on transfers, including those they probably shouldn’t.
Finally this has been clarified and thanks for locating the article.
