Plott won and wrestled well. Geer is getting worked over as I type. 6-1 in the first already over a minute of riding time. Pretty much unfortunately what we've seen out of Geer for the past couple of months.

Yeah he beat Kent in the dual too so it’s a little more frustrating. Idk what happened to him. He was so dominant the 1st half of the season.

Geer down 7-4 in the 3rd. Cocky OU wrestler pinned and then started mouthing off, pretty classy.

Surber loses 9-2. Surber got an opening takedown but it was all Luffman from there on out.

I like Surber, but he is not the long-term answer, IMO. Hope he makes me eat my words. I just don't see it.

Personally I think he is a long term answer, unless you find a ready to AA Sr transfer. I just think he needs to get bigger. If he's still way undersized next year that will be the indicator to me that it's not going to work long term. I just see too much wrestling potential in him. For what we have out there I'm happy with out morning session. Didn't watch Wyatt wrestle but everyone else looked like they were there to compete but just came up short.

1st round went almost as expected for me except for Surber. I had him winning and had Geer winning, but not by fall. Well done Geer! Plott and Daton looked good. Mastro still not taking bottom worries me a lot though. I actually thought Sheets wrestled better than we have seen of him as of late, but had a very tough match. From how he was moving It didn't appear that his injury is too much of a concern anymore. If Mastro, Gfeller and Plott can pick up wins tonight I really like their chances of AA. But... Masto is going to have to get off bottom to do it. I have no idea what to expect from Geer at this point, but he has consistently overperformed at nationals so I wont count him out for AA.

good sign that Sheets was competitive with Deaken the #2 seed as he is tough.
Best time to catch Deakin was this morning or tomorrow morning. It would have been nice to see that fire in his belly during the season and he wouldn’t have been the 31 seed.

Hopefully Young can beat Micic. I feel like that’s a good matchup for him. I saw where Michigan went 8-1 in the first round.

I'd like to make an update to my projected rule changes I've talked about in the past. Personally I don't think you should get riding time unless you perform an offensive move to obtain control. I also think that riding time should stop after 30 seconds after you make that controlling move or if you end up exposing the back. I want to see people working to score and not just locking a leg in and then make a bunch of pointless movements to avoid getting a stalling call. You can still ride for 2 minutes if you want but unless you are actually doing something you gain no more than :30 of riding time.

On the Surber weight topic...Luke wrestled 197 last season. Then in late May he went 92 kg for FS. So 2 months later he was up about 5 lbs. At the time, I posted thinking he would be wrestling at least 97 kg. As a comparison, Lucas Davison also wrestled 197 last year. 2 months later he wrestled 125 kg for FS.

20-25 pounds of muscle makes him a totally different animal. He has the skills and the gas tank.

I'm just glad Mastro is choosing the position that allows him the best chance of winning...

Something like this would be great. Judging when to count riding time and when not to would be very challenging and subjective, but you could do top man stall call if they haven't made a serious attempt at a pinning combination in 30 seconds and this would achieve a similar goal. Of course I'm biased but when I watch tourneys I realize that in general top man stalling doesn't get called nearly enough. You're already laying on the guy... you should have to be DOING things too. Lock the ankle and drape across your opponent while you half heartedly grab a wrist, do a cross-face, reach around the other way and half heartedly grab a wrist, push on the head... nothing that really works towards a pin unless their opponent happened to be a child.

There could be more double stall calls too. One non-OSU match I saw, both guys literally stood 5 feet apart for 15-20 seconds without tying up and not even at the end of a period. I get being tired but why is that not a double stall.

We suck on bottom as a team. Young has so much talent but you have to be able to get off bottom of you want to AA
Bottom is a team concern, but re Young specically: in neutral, he shoots and rhen tries to wrestle on his knees. If his shot fails, he needs to get up.
