What a pin by Vega just kept working that cradle until he got the pin. We have a big 3 freshmen Vega, Robideau and Lockett. Swiderski wrestled a good match and won by decision. He did not gas in the 3rd which was a big plus. It surprised me with the lack of offense with Robideau. I thought he would break Taylor but he didn't. He did not have very many clean shots and so he didn't score. In the 2nd period it seems it was a mistake after the takedown and riding for a while to let Taylor go. The 4 seconds of riding time in overtime was costly and forced going neutral. Landon's offense has seemed off 2 duals in a row. However he was wrestling a National Champ, but Taylor has lost twice and was rated 6th. We have a solid lead now we need a good 2nd half by our upper weights.
I'm glad you said something about the decision to cut Taylor with a minute to go in the 2nd period. Why? Why not try to get a minute of riding time, a turn, and/or a ride-out? Potentially lost two points there.

I think they had confidence in Landon’s ability to get a takedown which is fair. Plus Landon wasn’t exactly putting a hard ride on him. They probably figured that cutting him would give Landon more time to work.

HWT - Doucet with a 2-1 decision. RT for a full 2nd period ride but apparently their was a locked hands (BS call).

22-12 oSu
Ziola played that perfect. I didn’t like the call, but the one before that went uncalled was 100% locked hands.

Ziola was pushing that. Once he saw or felt the lock or mat return, he’d put his hand down. Smart use of the rules on his part.

Couple of stats. OK State has 6 takedowns and Nebraska had 3. We had 4 bonus points to 0 for Nebraska. Cody did not have a takedown but won the match by his top game which is same thing he did at National duals. There were three matches in this dual where no takedowns were scored.
Konnor won 2 to 1 against a true freshman 197. It was a good win for the dual. However, our wrestler's performance mostly was disappointing. Someone, above indicated 1 takedown in our last 6 matches which is a terrible stat. Spratley wrestled good but I thought he should have scored more takedowns. Ramirez has no offense in the last 2 duals. Vega was the star of the dual with a great pin. Swiderski showed improvement in conditioning. Landon never got close to a takedown, you would have to be sharp and committed to get a takedown on Taylor ( I think Landon showed too much respect).

Very good win. I keep having to remind myself we are wrestling six freshman!

Yes, agreed. I just hate giving up the known one point for a might situation. It did not work out. Oh well.

Ziola will never see 197 and was highly ranked coming out of HS.

He won super 23 and who’s #1. He is going to be an issue in the future.

Smarter wrestling minds than me, help me understand. How is Vega THAT dominant over Hardy twice now? I fully expected that Hardy was gonna come out determined to not get dominated again and give Vega one hell of a fight. Instead his a$$ got stuck in the first period.
Vega is damn good and his length obviously gives Hardy fits. Vega is at 5 dates now .Next dual is Jan 11 . Jamison is coming back and Casey looked better. What do you do?

You’re a good mind!

IMO, what Brock is super great at, is not even close to effective against Sergio. He hangs in danger because he can scramble and get to corners easily. Sergio is actually really good at the same game and he’s considerably longer than Brock.

Here’s a question I was just thinking about. Facundo seems small for 174 and doesn’t seem to have the strength. Is there a chance we redshirt Dee next year, move Facundo down to 165, and maybe bring in a transfer for 174?

I know this is just to drum up discussion but I’ve finally acknowledged there’s no 4D chess w DT. He wrestles the best guy. Ask Teague Travis and Carter Young. There’s zero chance he red shirts an undefeated freshman who hasn’t given up a takedown all year and who MD and pinned last years finalist! At this point, I’d put $100 on polymarket that Jax wrestles this year 😂.

I agree with you gotta start him. Let Jamison and Swiderski both go to the scuffle and figure it out

What can we realistically expect from Facundo and Zack at March? Both are struggling to finish or score TDs against top 10 guys. If that’s the measuring point, both will be blood round guys at best.

I know we have better wrestling minds here: what can happen to these two to improve from now to March? Cause it feels like we are trying to teach old horse new tricks.

I would rather just bring in a transfer at 174 and bench Facundo at this point.
