Is it legally possible for Nebraska and other teams to go rogue from their conferences? For many programs football is the life blood for the school and the community. Many can't afford to go without a season. Could we possible see teams break off from their conferences and either permanently or temporarily create new conferences. Im mean conferences are worthless without top/ blue blood teams in it. So lets say Nebr, Michigan, Ohio St, Iowa gave the middle finger to the BIG10 and went off on their own and joined the BIG12. Do you think the major networks will want to carry Rutgers vs Michigan St. Nope, the TV deals and viewership will follow wherever the top team are. In theory a conference like the BIG10 could be left behind and turned into the MAC.

There's power in collectively pushing back, but people like Chiefs of Staffs, university official communication personnel, state government officials, and head coaches aren't joining in the pushing without a contingency option for playing being available.

Buckle up.

That would be fine, but do we have to take Iowa with us?

Michigan and Ohio St voted not to have a season. Suddenly they’re gonna flip the bird and jump to the Big 12?

Hearing it wasn't the presidents or ADs who said no. It was the medical advisors who said no. Not sure if true.

Buckle up for what? Nobody thinks it is under serious discussion and even if it was, everybody knows that the final decision would be made by university presidents - and they will follow scientific/medical counsel and recommendations. Then again, If you are dumb enough to believe that "university official communication personnel" have the power to exert pressure on presidents and chancellors at major universities, you'll believe just about anything.

You do realize the University of Nebraska voted to play yesterday on the advisement of its medical team and the university's chief of staff has nearly two decades of experience in the medical field, correct?

As for the official communication personnel, they're so heavily regulated as to what they can put out in today's sensitive social climate that they're not going to speak recklessly simply because they can. They're the voices of their universities on a daily basis, so let me know the next time you see one of them speak out against their school making a major decision again.

As for your opinions, you don’t have to buckle up, but at least try to keep up.

You do realize that the vote was 12-2 right? 12 B10 presidents voted against playing. Nebraska's medical experts have been overwhelmingly outvoted and overruled by medical experts at all but one other university. It wasn't close. Playing outside the B10 isn't going to happen.

The 12-2 vote means nothing because any contingency plan is not going to be directed by the conference.

I'm not going to argue you saying that the team isn't playing outside of the conference because you're speaking on an unfounded absolute regarding information and contractual agreements that you don't have access to. I don't either which is why I'm not saying they will. What I am saying is there are contingency options that allow them to play while still keeping their status as a B1G university.

The 12-2 vote means nothing? LOL

I'm sure you are aware that on July 9th, the B10 announced that it had consulted with all member institutions and had collectively decided to limit all Fall sports to competition between B10 members only. I suppose it is theoretically possible that after first deciding to limit games to conference foes and then voting to cancel the Fall season, the B10 presidents could reconvene and decide to open things up again and vote to rescind their July 9th decision so as to allow member schools the freedom to independently schedule games outside the conference..

Schedules are decided by the conference.

That decision is nullified when the conference decides not to participate. This is contractual basics 101.

Based on open dates and schools needing non-conference games, we could put together a nine-game schedule that looks like this:
Sept. 5 Oklahoma State
Sept. 12 Oklahoma
Sept. 19 @KSU
Sept. 26 @Kansas
Oct. 3 Notre Dame
Oct. 10 @Baylor
Oct. 17
Oct. 24 Iowa State
Oct. 31 West Virginia
Nov. 7
Nov. 14 @Iowa

the politicization of HCQ definitely caused some of them.

didn’t Fox News say for a while that the pandemic was fake/overblown and not to worry? Then 160,000+ people died. Good one!

Anyway, I sincerely hope that it’s feasible for Nebraska to just rejoin the Big 12 this year, regardless of legality, contracts, etc

Liberal cities aren't doing a thing to curb riots nor abide by the very rules they put in place, so the answer is yes.

Since when are Texas, Georgia and Arizona "liberal"? This virus doesn't care about your politics.

And yes, protesting has been irresponsible since this began in earnest in March. That includes the in-person BLM protests and it also includes the anti-lockdown protests.

Exactly, both things can exist at the same time.

Don't confuse not going to with being incapable of doing so, but I'd put the early line at -9 OU with an O/U of 52.
Yeah, if Nebraska and/or Iowa decide to go independent this Fall you can expect the other 12 member schools to have a say on what the considerable cost of that decision will be.

Medical "experts" shouldn't have the final say. If it were up to them, you would have been locked inside your homes since this started and any form of personal contact would be illegal. These medical experts often don't understand the economic impact decisions like cancelling sports seasons has or how broad an effect a decision like that has on different groups of people.

Sean Callahan said that the vote was how comfortable the schools were to play based on the University's medical staffs confidence. Iowa and Nebraska were the only medicals staffs that felt comfortable playing.

I'm certain that the proceeds from any games would be heavily sanctioned by the conference, but the university would come out well in the black.

As for Nebraska or any other B1G school going independent, it would likely lead to a domino effect with other schools following the first school to make the move. I doubt every school would consider the decision, namely Illinois, Northwestern, Rutgers, and Maryland, but the other conference schools wouldn't be a surprise especially when a plan is presented to the masses.

That being said, I think you're misinterpreting that I'm saying this is happening, which I'm not, with me saying it's possible, which I am. You're saying it's impossible.

“We want to play a Big Ten schedule, I hope that’s what happens. Our University is committed to playing no matter what that looks like and how that looks. We want to play no matter where it is and who it is, so we’ll see how all those chips fall and certainly hope it’s in the Big Ten and if it isn’t, then we’re prepared to look for other options.” - Scott Frost, 1:35ish PM CT, 08/10/2020

Just got off the CDC website (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) went to the Cases and Deaths tab and these are the numbers.

New Cases 5,023,649
Deaths 161,842
% of deaths 3.2%

Here are the numbers for the Flu: 2019 1.7 % death rate
Normal Death rate 2.2%
What happened to the .5% that shrunk? Could it possibly be rolled into the Covid death rate??? Link to the website https://www.healthline.com/health/influenza/facts-and-statistics#1

I need help with this math please. Normal death rate for the flu is 2.2% (young people are susceptible to the flu, ask all the coaches)
Death rate for Covid cases 3.2% (with numbers that have been falsified) Covid does not effect young people. More teens are dying from suicide over this drama than have died from the virus, per CDC.

I need convinced that is a deadly virus. It is very dangerous to the elderly and those with existing health problems. The numbers are not adding up.

Here’s a quote from Frosts zoom call he just did today...

“We want to play a Big Ten schedule, I hope that’s what happens,” Frost said. “Our University is committed to playing no matter what that looks like and how that looks. We want to play no matter where it is and who it is, so we’ll see how all those chips fall and certainly hope it’s in the Big Ten and if it isn’t, then we’re prepared to look for other options.”

He also said that he “100 percent” believes that the safest place for his athletes is in the structure of the football program where they can be treated by doctors and monitored for symptoms. He noted that most Nebraska players who have tested positive for Covid-19, contracted the virus outside of football activities.

It sure looks like they want to play a BIG 10 schedule first but if that’s not possible, it definitely appears Frost, staff, players and the University is and will do what ever it takes to play this year regardless if it’s the BIG 10 or what ever. And I completely agree and back them up. GBR

Frost is a leader. Trevor Lawrence is a leader. Jim Hardpaw is a leader. Since we have little say in what happens, let's see how much people like them can lead.
