Nebraska Tier

Losing close games to Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, and Oklahoma. Particularly an Ohio State who has smoked Nebraska in every matchup, but two. The question is what is Nebraska? Is it a program building under a fourth year coach happy to keep games close? Is it a program that should not be happy to get smiley faces for beating the spread ?

Three wins. Ten games in, and they are competing with everybody. They just don't win. Purdue under Brohm has beaten Iowa. They are beating Michigan State by double digits. This may prove to be the launching pad for them, but they still have three losses. Nebraska was brought in to the conference to be the fourth blue blood. Whatever that means anymore. Eventually the wins need to be wins. Whatever you see as improvement " You play to win the game!!".

Last place in the Big Ten West. What other Tier could even be talked about? In the end, you either lost or won.

We are first place in the delusional standings. By delusional I mean a coach with a losing season each year who gets a pass for everything and still has people saying he is doing a good job

If he is back and has another losing season, at least it's not a debate we will have the rest of our lives like Solich and Bo.

When you turn on the t.v to see Alabama, Ohio State, or Georgia vs a LSU, Penn State, or Clemson, you still expect to see a fight. Back in the 2000's when you saw a USC go into Lincoln during their dominant run, you still kind of expected a compelling matchup.

Today when you see Ohio State come into Lincoln, or Oklahoma you expect a blowout. This is what the casual fan expects, and I would wager recruits do as well. Nebraska in the 90's had kids in New York wearing their gear. Go to YouTube, and check out an old John Stossel video called "Nuts for Nintendo". There were kids in that report in New York City wearing Nebraska, and Michigan jerseys. I recall seeing Brett Favre, and Jerry Rice jerseys in school before I even knew or cared about the sport. But I was a casual fan of the Packers, Niners, and Cowboys because I perceived them as the big time.

Right now I don't know if anybody turns on a television, and sees Nebraska as a must watch. It seems like Tuesday night Maction.

Yet still not as boring as 7-2 Iowa. It's exasperating.

Nobody expects Iowa to really ever win a Title. Back in 2002 I think was their beat shot, but most in the fan base accepts the every one in four years being a threat to win the B1G. I think that was the message being delivered when Bo was fired. Nebraska wasn't content with splitting games with Iowa. Well that hasn't been an issue.

Iowa is content with what Nebraska was under Pelini. Nebraska has fallen far below that level, but it's clear they want to be at Ohio State level.

!. Nebraska will never be on Ohio State's level, at least not consistently. Really, our goal should be to be like Wisconsin-- always tough, puts guys in the NFL, can at least win the West. Or like Washington, Auburn, or Oklahoma State. Firmly in the 2nd tier with occassional years where we make more noise.

2. Nebraska should retain Frost and shed Verduzco and Austin at the least. Even though we have a down recruiting year, making it better to change coaches, Partly for financial reasons, partly to acknowledge the team is on the cusp, getting off the coaching carousel and yet another total team reset.

3. Frost needs to be clear with AM that he is welcome to return for his senior year, but he is still going to go after a transfer QB to legitimately compete for the starting job.

Totally agree with you, Brother, especially with points #1 and #2 I graduated Wisconsin the year before Barry took over. We were 1-10. For four years all we wanted was a winning record. The boys were dominated, but were tough and never gave up. This is what I see in Nebraska this year, but rather than 2 coaches, it is only one. Scott Frost. Stick with him, one more year!

I say we are around bob devaney's 1st year, but with a lot more competition, where everyone is throwing money in football, because thats the real cash cow, and the ncaa is trying it's best to make parity, with scholarship limits, etc.

Wtf would Frost have to be clear with AM? In my world, the coach is the coach and the player is the player.

So AM knows if he wants to return or not. Communication is important in leadership positions.
Then I assume Frost does this with all the players? How about that 3rd string left tackle, is he in the "gotta know" category?

Frost would have to read a book today about "Leadership" so he could be introduced to the actual concept.
