Mitch Sherman of ESPN said when he first heard it he thought it was a joke.

Actually a lot of people here in Oregon were very surprised too, but for a different reason: Riley was on the hot-seat, donors were grumbling about how soon to push him out.

There's some inexplicable fawning going on over on twitter by a fair amount of national media. That he had hardly any resources and actually overachieved for what he had to work with.

Not that I buy it.

Oregon St. has "nothing" compared to Oregon who essentially is a university extension of Nike. Nebraska is grasping at straws on this one. While I think Mike Riley is a good coach, he couldn't be very competitive in the PAC-12 so I can't imagine it will be much easier in the B1G. Honestly, in 2 years Nebraska fans will be wondering "Why did we fire Pelini?"

I don't actually know a lot of Nebraska fans, but the few I do were not excited about firing Pelini.

My son lives in New Braska and will have a lot of fun with this hire.

LOL, ESPN reporting that Nebraska fired Pelini because he was too much of a jerk and hired Riley because everyone likes him.
