Caught 20-30 minutes of the scrimmage yesterday.....I think NU fans are really going to end up liking the 2015 recruiting class. We may not win an abundance of games this year....and it may be ugly at some times but it appears Miles has some very nice pieces to work with the next four years. Morrow is already changing his body and is a beast on the glass...he may lack height in terms of playing the PF position but he is a player that plays above the rim. Once his mid range game and post game develops he is going to be very good. The surprise for me was Bakari Evelyn who was the least recruited and talked about recruit. He looked like he belonged and nailed three straight jumpers in the first scrimmage to give the whites the lead over the red. Also, Anton Gill looks to be another great transfer pickup by the staff. He looked smooth and appears to have a nice stroke from deep. We have nice size from 1-4 in the future but need to find that big man. Hammond is still pretty thin...I think he can give us minutes but I don't know if he's the answer at the 5 position just yet.

Can't wait to see them in action. How were the teams divided up? Was it new guys vs returners? How did Jacobson look?

I caught the first scrimmage and the lineups were below...red won by 1 point on a last second layup by Trueblood. I don't remember how the second scrimmage was split up....as far as Jacobson I honestly don't remember seeing him. He has been injured with a stress fracture in his foot apparently. Shields was also out with some sort of injury. Didn't appear to be serious.

Red:

0 Tai Webster

3 Andrew White III

4 Johnny Trueblood

5 Glenn Watson Jr.

10 Jack McVeigh

12 Michael Jacobson

30 Ed Morrow

White:

1 Anton Gill

11 Bakari Evelyn

23 Nick Fuller

24 Jake Hammond

32 Benny Parker

Oh yes, I think I had heard that.

I think you are right, about the wins, but definitely a good foundation for the future. Next season when Gill becomes eligible will hopefully be a good season. Too bad Shields will be gone.

I agree with everyone that Nebraska is in need of a big man, but I wonder.... with Golden State's success in the NBA, and the fact that Cleveland basically went small to hang with them in the Finals, if a team can be successful with ball movement and a sharp shooting three-point team, it's not to say a dominant big man is required to be successful.

Kent Pavelka was interviewed on Sports Nightly after yesterday's scrimmage. Just based on his tone of voice, he has very low expectations for this team. Sounds like if we can't make 3s or figure out how to get defensive rebounds we are in big trouble. We shall see...

Small ball works great if you have the shooters and all 5 guys are willing rebounders. You also must commit to pushing the ball at every opportunity in hopes of getting a few easy points in the paint.

The problems arise when you don't have the shooters or not everyone is committing to do the dirty work and get rebounds. You also have to make your post double teams effective because if you can't force turnovers, you aren't running and your chances at easy baskets decrease.

I don't have high expectations for this team this year simply because Petteway is no longer there and he'll be tough to replace. The incoming recruiting class gives me hope though that things will be different a year from now when they've gotten some experience. Should be a fun team to watch develop.
