Husker fans I’m a huge college football fan that has been attending different venues for last 15 years. I’ve been thru most of the original big ten, sec, 1/2 of acc stadiums.

I will be attending the game on Saturday / looking for recommendations for must see stuff to see/do on campus. Any pregame festivities? Any traditions? Tailgating locations to walk thru?

thanks for any recommendations or suggestions.

good luck to the buskers this weekend

One thing I like to do is wait for the stadium to clear out and then go down on the field after the game. Awesome pics at the 50 yard line and cool views of the stadium.

Where are you staying? Head down to the Haymarket district downtown for the pregame bar and restaurant scene.

3 is a great kickoff time. First, make sure you are in your seats 20 minutes prior to kickoff. Depending on where you are sitting, I would plan to be to the stadium entrance 40 minutes prior to kick.

I'm partial to the Haymarket area for pre-game, but basically everything within a couple miles of the stadium is a pre-game activity. Railyard has a giant outdoor screen where hundreds will be watching the early games.

Some people like to watch the team get off the bus. Someone else can fill in on details of that, I'm usually drinking at that time.

On Friday night there is a tradition of the pep band marching through a restaurant in the Havelock area called Misty's. It's a pretty old school restaurant with decent (not great) steaks and prime rib. The restaurant itself has a cool old school steakhouse vibe. Otherwise, I'd agree with those saying the Haymarket is the place to hang out.

Get on campus an hour early, go about two blocks south of the stadium and listen to the band play. And a bit east of there, the rest of the band will march into the stadium-- walk behind them. Pretty cool if you like tradition. Take a few minutes to check out the tailgate scene on the east side of the stadium. You may notice some old architecture from years gone by like the Coliseum where Nebraska played basketball until the mid 70's and more recently hosted sold out volleyball games. Then go into the stadium around 2:30 or so to watch the band perform Mr. Touchdown (another tradition) and see the team go onto the field with the Tunnel Walk. The Tunnel Walk started in the 90's just before the glory years and it's still pretty cool today. A new tradition that I like is (probably at the end of the 1st quarter) is "The Cornhusker"-- people sing along t-shirts are shot into the stands.

Eat a Runza and a slice of Val's Pizza during the game. Or a Fairbury hot dog. After the game, go to Barry's if you want to check out a traditional bar scene. The nearby Railyard is newer but also a great place to check out.

Head West of the stadium under the viaduct and hit a Husker tailgate.

You'll get free food and beer till the masses start moving to the stadium.

Thank me later.
