My boy has been training with a private QB coach for 3 years now. The mechanics are like second nature to him at this point. Camp just started this past week for his school. Theres a new coach who has never played the position and he is telling my brother to abandon all of his training and if he doesn’the will not be playing. The kid is not going against what his coach at his school is trying to teach him. He trains with QBWon. Same trainer that trains Phillip Hird, Athan Kalakamanis, JT Thomas, Monken from Vernon hills and a lot of college kids. He is up training with the college kids every weekend who all have the same mechanics. This new coach is head strong on his 20 years of coaching experience and will not accept anything that has nothing to do with the schools program. What can we do at this point? I tell my boy to tell him yes sir, but when he gets into a play everything that he has been trained naturally comes to him.

Have him bring his concerns to coach Robinson. He's a good guy

Agreed. Robinson is a solid guy. Cares about kids. As long as your son makes the right option reads and can run the ball he's got nothing to worry about in that offense.

Robinson is one heck of a guy. You guys got that right how he is for the kids. We just dont want any of the coaches to think he does not trust their coaching. We will have him reach out to Robinson next practice.

I don't think he will make it seem that way, especially if it's your son that initiates it. Just have him communicate that he doesn't feel comfortable and that he feels confused that he's being told different things from different people. I can also tell you that I think I know who the QB coach is, and that guy is.... interesting.

I played QB through college. Have been a private QB coach for 10 years. Have been a college Qb or Wr’s Coach for the past 5 years.

Our private training has produced several QBs who have gone on to play college ball.

I say that to say we always tell the guys that what we are teaching is our philosophy but you do whatever your HS/college coach coaches you to do.

There are several ways to skin a cat and there are several ways to play QB. Just bc a “private” qb coach teaches one thing doesn’t make it absolute. Cam Newtown throws a footBall much different than Tom Brady. They are both playing at the highest level.

As a QB, fundamentals need to fit the offense. In one offense a Qb may take a 3 step drop to throw a slant. In others he may take a 4 step. I can promise you the coach will have good reasoning for teaching something different than a private coach.

There is nothing wrong w asking your Hs coach why he believes in certain fundamentals. He should love getting these questions from his players bc it shows they care and want to be great. But make sure it comes off respectfully and it comes from the KID.

Two absolute turn offs to a coach is a player who says “my private coach says I should do it this way” or a dad who speaks for the kid.

Transferring him to a program that fits his style seems to be the popular move these days...not saying I agree with it but that just a fact. What year is he?

There are programs where the relevant question may be..."What is a slant pattern?" :D Welcome to Wilmington...:)

I'm confused as how would correct throwing mechanics and fundamentals be different from your son's personal Quarterback Coach and that of his High School Coach?

What specifically are the differences between them?

There's a coach at that school that is very convinced his way is the only way. I'll leave it at that
