This was a terrible first game in terms of tempering my expectations.
They gave up 38 points in the second half.
You want to only give up 33 at most.

They had a couple of sloppy plays but that will iron itself out with more experience playing together. I think we had more back door baskets in this one game than a Cal coached team has an entire season.
Nice to have a proper blowout against a mid-major. Lots of things to work on individually and as a team, but we did what we were supposed to do and took care of business.
We left some easy ones out there the first half. Other than that, pretty happy about the overall performance.

The main negative and only negative point is the crowd at Rupp Arena. Not all seats occupied, after the 3 -4 possessions when the crowd was in the game , the only points to raise the decibels were missed free throws by the WS players and of course when Noah and Perry were getting ready to enter the game.
The only significant negative to me that may carry through the season is Amari's FT shooting form...he shoots SOOO FLAT. If he only had a little more arc, no doubt his FT shooting % would go up.
Perry and Noah missed their 3-pointers. That’s not really negative but it’s all I could come up with.

Honestly speaking, they looked good. Very entertaining, no letting up. Good defense to go with the offense. Things were a little sloppy and a little out of control on a few possessions, but that all will clean itself up as these guys play more together. Gonna be a fun season. Schedule is only gonna get tougher but this is a promising start.

Even if it doesn't click this year for Garrison, Almonor seems more than ready to handle the backup minutes when Williams is out of the game. And Williams should only come out when the other team is going to foul or he needs rest; dude is everything I had hoped for and a little more.
The positives are you don't have to watch Cal screaming and yelling at the players to GOOO!! And yelling at the refs on every single whistle. You have to still get on the players for mistakes but not every sec.
I watched the game on Youtube. Therefore, the answer to what negatives there were is, all the times the game was interrupted with political ads.
I watched on an illegal Youtube reaction stream, since the gov seized Streameast. The positive thing about that is the screen goes blank during commercials.
That was the only negative saw, he needs to get with Perry and let Perry teach him how to shoot FT's.
