Not sure whom Bob's Prozac comment is aimed at (don't believe it's me), but I have a guess. About as nasty as things get on a message board. Kind of sadly ironic given the intent of the OP.

My username is the active drug in Prozac, it's not just a random thing.

If RHJ came out tomorrow and said:

"I'm pissed. I missed the last 3, the last shot to end our season. That's not how I want to ever end a season. I'll be in the gym tomorrow shooting 500 3s a day until next season."

People would want a statue built.

Alternatively, if RHJ came out and said:

Wow. That was great. We made the tourney. Next season? Eh, I'll worry about that later. It'll come when it comes. Going to bask in making the tournament for a while.

What does that have to do with this thread? I've heard of apples and oranges . . .

You can be proud of what you accomplished and also want to get better; it's not an either/or thing.

Also, you have to have realistic goals. On some level, you aren't happy with anything but a championship. But on another level, you have to recognize that having two consecutive tournament quality teams in years 4 and 5 and winning a game in the tournament is about as good as anyone realistically would have hoped for when Pikiell started. It doesn't mean we can't demand more eventually, but being dissatisfied now is ridiculous.

Most significant season in 38 years an half of everyone around can’t appreciate it. We are not the Yankees, we can be happy about things other than a championship
I don’t like this school of thought, generally . This fanbase has not only tolerated but embraced downright awfulness for years . Part of it is this school of thought . But for this one year we can be proud of this team and their accomplishments . For rutgers , this is a great season . Now this should be the measuring stick of success going forward . Not an NIT berth or something less

I also find it rather hilarious that @RUBOB72 is constantly complaining about people having "loser mentalities" or whatever and whenever anyone tries to point out the above his explanation is something along the lines of "this is Rutgers, we inherently suck, so we need to win NOW and FAST or it's all going away". Talk about internalized inferiority..

Expectations/hopes aren't static.
They go up and down constantly as more data is gathered.
Even within a game itself.

Sure, the team absolutley smashed all initial expectations.
But the "live expectations" with 5 minutes to go against Houston were certainty higher.

Football was 3-6 this year to be fair
Well it took us 24 games to reach 3 wins the previous two season. So with 3 wins in 9 games, we should probably start pouring the concrete footing on that Schiano statue.

Sure, we all experience that. But I think ideally, once the game has been over for a couple days, we step back and try to look at things more objectively. Pikiell should not be judged more harshly because we exceeded expectations for the first 35 minutes of the game. The game, overall, still went better than expected. Pikiell should not be judged more harshly for this year because he had a tournament-quality team last year. At the beginning of last year no one expected to make the tournament, now people are mad we didn't make the sweet 16.

I'm not saying we shouldn't have higher standards down the road. If this is the ceiling I will be far from satisfied. But realistically what I expect is another few years before we can become a consistent top 20 type of team. If somehow Pikiell puts us in the top 10 next year, it would be unreasonable for me to then get mad if we are the 35th best team the year after that.

I’m not surprised that people have been pissed the last 2 days because of the way the loss played out.

But after a while this will be remembered as an unbelievable season

I am of the opposite school of thought. As a fan, there is nothing wrong with at the end of the season looming back and saying “Man. That was fun.” I was disappointed by the way the game ended the other night and I fully expect the coaching staff to press forward to continue to get better. But I am not a player or a coach. There is nothing wrong with me being happy about this. My happiness does not affect the drive of the team.

You are correct on one thing We do need to WIN now in all sports and we have been doing just that. When you understand in your peanut sized brain thinking you can turn it on and off shows me what a dimwit you must be. Goodnite pumpkin. Go read some Dr.Seuss.

Was Sunday’s loss fun for you? It wasn’t a fun thing to watch. Not even close. No wonder we have struggled for years with thinking Sunday was fun. It was not a happy environment for several months and whether people want to sugar coat the season be my guest.

i was disappointed in the loss. But I got to scream and tell and shout and then be sad with my 8 year old son. I’ve never had a team to live and die with in the NCAA Tournament and this year I did. I even got to see a win. I got to watch it with my son. Overall, I had so much fun this season and yes I was even entertained by the game Sunday even though the ending was terrible. I want the team to do better but that doesn’t meant I can’t appreciate and enjoy a great and Historic season.

just a reminder that in a normal year half the football teams go to a bowl game and 68 teams out of 340 go to the NCAAs and that this season in hoops is in no way equivalent to a 6-6 football team.
Completely different ... we are comparing current teams... when was our last bowl game ? against whom ? I don’t have to look it up either.

Admit it you can’t accept a difference of opinion about what is a good season vs what is a great season. That is the argument not if I love Rutgers ,players or the coach. You are a liar though since I never said Rutgers in any sport sucks...
See I don’t think what happened Sunday was a funny thing it was sad. If you don’t like my take tough ****.You and your clown posse your a joke.

Negativity is not the reason I dislike you. It’s because your entire posting catalog is semi-coherent, combative, “old man yells at cloud” style ranting.

I bet we look back at this game fondly the minute we win a round of 32 game or god willing make to a final four. Imagine we could to it next year. All we would talk about is getting over the hump....

Unfortunately building a ncaa team is a lot easier than maintaining one. One bad recruiting class or one injury sets you back. If pikiell can get this team to ncaa tournement 2 or 3 out of next 5 he will need a statue.

I always say this to douches like you. I made it to this age . Not easy to reach my age but I would match my physical shape and and cognitive abilities with fools like you any day of the week. . It shows your stupidity since you evidently hang on anything I post. If your lucky you may make my age. Only problem is there are many land mines to get around. Good luck life is a *****.

Putting the pretend Rutgers fans and negatoids on ignore is very good, but I wish they would come up with a feature that blocks those same people from responding to your posts.

Congratulations to Coach Pike and Players for getting us to the NCAAs in back to back years for the first time in 45 years !

We won as many tournament games as Illinois,
Iowa, Maryland..had more wins than Purdue & Ohio State.
I would say compared to our conference peers that is pretty good. We also didn’t get blown out by a 2 seed like Maryland.

am I upset and miserable we lost? Of course as we HAD that game. Let’s just take a step back and see where we compare.

Houston was just rated in a tie for third place to win the National Title. We played them tough for 35 minutes and were very close to taking them down. Other than Michigan we had the best showing in the Tournament. Can be sad about losing, but it was a great year that helped provide a relief from Covid. Thanks to the Team and Coaches for making us proud. Remember Myles redshirted his freshman year. Maybe we will be pleasantly surprised about the progress our Freshman make coming into next year and with a normal out of conference schedule.

The way I see it, there are 2 types of fans.....

Those that get enjoyment out of following their team and who both enjoy the ride and want the team to be better and win because they can celebrate.

Those that are focus on what went wrong when following their team and who want the team to be better and win so they can experience some relief from their woes and misery.

Guess which bucket you fall into?
