So finally, a colossal tornado of a race.

I think the last three races have been pretty good, but you’re right about yesterday’s race. That was as entertaining a race as I remember watching in a long time. Hamilton’s pit stop after hitting the wall was just brutal to watch (not that I’m complaining).
I was really happy to see things work out well for Vettel. Since Germany last year, it seems like it’s been a steady stream of bad luck, unforced errors or stupid Ferrari strategy decisions for him in every race. Hopefully this ends that streak.
And while I’m not a Mercedes fan and it was good to see other teams on the podium, I do feel a bit bad for Bottas. If he keeps his car just a few inches to the right, then he’s probably on the podium. That would have put a bit more pressure on Hamilton in the driver’s standings. Instead, Hamilton has a terrible finish and it doesn’t really hurt him much in the standings. Plus, I just appreciate how Bottas goes about his business.
For any of you who missed the race, I would definitely recommend watching the replay if you get a chance.

I don’t know what it is, but something about Cyril Abiteboul just rubs me the wrong way. I try not to be this way, but I can’t say I wasn’t happy about Renault’s results yesterday.
Wish Ricciardo would’ve stayed with Red Bull.
Agreed 100%. Cyril should have been out after last year. They are a disaster.
I love Guenther Steiner, but Haas has not been good this year. Magnusson and Grosjean got together again yesterday like idiots.
Yeah, quite a few people were scratching their heads at Steiner’s decision to keep Grosjean for this season. It’s definitely looking like that wasn’t the right call. Grosjean just seems to be a headcase. Surely someone like Esteben Ocon would’ve been an upgrade, but maybe there were contract issues with him being a Mercedes academy guy.
Haas’ struggles with the tires have been disappointing too. I was hoping to see them do well this year.
On the positive side, I have been pleased with McLaren and impressed with Lando Norris. Ayrton Senna remains my favorite driver and McLaren was dominant when I was younger, so it’s nice to see them showing some progress this year. Wish the same could be said for Williams.

I finished the series last night, and it was phenomenal. It's turned me into a Formula 1 fan, and I'm going to try to follow it the rest of the season when it starts back later this month.
I've just got to settle on a team to pull for.
I don't want to pull for Mercedes or Ferrari because they're the perennial front runners, and Verstappen on Red Bull seems like a real prick.
Haas possibly, since it's the only American team, but seems like that would be like pulling for Vandy in the SEC. Grossjean is a complete head case, but I do like Magnussen. McLaren could be another potential option since their principal is an American, they are somewhat competitive and their drivers seem likable. But it's hard to get behind anything that's a combination of orange and blue. Last option would be Alfa Romeo because Raikkonen seems like a funny guy and their paint job is pretty killer.

Looks like the Netflix series is doing its job and finding new fans. Nice to see there are more of us around.
Personally, I tend to pick specific drivers to follow rather than teams. There tends to be a decent amount of turnover on the team side. Of the current teams, only three have really been around for a long time (Ferrari, McLaren and Williams). Mercedes and Renault have strong history, but there have also been long periods where they were absent.
However, to each their own so good luck with picking a team. As a Senna fan, I’d say you can’t go wrong with McLaren but understand if orange and blue isn’t your thing.
Completely agree with you on Magnussen and Raikkonen. Entertaining to watch those two, both in races and at press conferences.
I've already told several of my buddies about it, and they are going to give it a watch.
Mentioned it to my nephew, but he'd already seen it and I found out he's already a huge F1 fan who hasn't missed a race in five years. He lives in Ft. Worth, and he and a group of his buddies are going to the U.S. Grand Prix in November. For sh*ts and giggles I looked up ticket prices, and was like "wow". :flushed:
Sucks to see a storied team like Williams doing so bad at the moment. I saw there was a documentary about them on Netflix as well, so I'll try to check that out sometime soon.
Yeah, ticket prices are a major downside to Formula 1. Have thought about going to the race in Austin several times but I have a hard time spending that amount on a sporting event.
Would definitely recommend the Williams and the Senna documentaries if you get a chance. I think they’re both still on Netflix.
It’s not on Netflix, but there’s also a documentary that’s simply called “1” that was pretty good. It focuses on how the sport has evolved from a safety perspective and highlights how dangerous it was, particularly up through the 1970s. Being a racing driver involved legitimate courage back then.
Question for those of you who’ve been following F1 for a while: what’s your perspective on Mercedes possibly replacing Bottas with another driver?
I get that you always want to have top talent driving your cars and that Bottas has made some mistakes lately. However, I’m not sure this move makes sense to me. Bottas seems like the perfect number 2 driver to me. Strong enough to consistently finish near the top and you don’t have to worry about him getting too competitive with Hamilton.
To me, that seems like the best formula for winning both drivers and constructors titles. Not sure I understand the need to look elsewhere, but maybe that’s just me.

I went ahead and subscribed to F1TV, and have watched the first few races from earlier this year as a primer. Through the first four, it's simply been the Hamilton / Bottas show. Anxious to see if the proposed 2021 changes tighten the field any next year.

So with Ocon off the board, Haas' two remaining options for their 2nd seat along side Magnussen for 2020 are resigning Romain Grosjean or bringing in Nico Hulkenberg.

Ha! Know exactly what you mean. I slowly started feeling the same way as last season progressed.
And Daniel Ricciardo looks like he’s an embarrassingly bad basketball player.
Was it just me or did some of the Haas Owner/Guenther meeting scenes feel very fake/scripted.

Didn't realize just how bad Williams was at beginning of last year in regards to their car not being ready for initial testing. What a cluster.
Really liked Alex Albon, prob will be rooting for him this year.

The Williams episode is hard to watch. I'll always remember Paddy Lowe as Hamilton's guy at McLaren so it sucks seeing him booted. I also like Williams for bringing back the Iceman and him being a menace while there. Hoping they step it up this season.
Edit: I'm also really disappointed at the lack of discussion about Honda engines during the Red Bull episode. I thought Red Bull made a huge mistake going with them but it worked for some reason. With McLaren they made no power and exploded like Chinese fireworks.

That’s big news. Though with how strong Leclerc was last year, I guess it was inevitable that something would need to change soon.
Wonder if Vettel’s planning on moving to another team or if he’s walking away from F1.
Red Bull always said Seb was great for car development because he could give technical feedback to the engineers. I'd like to see him in a midfield team and see how it goes, particularly when the cap comes into play.
