When Tre dove for the ball, initially he was the only player going after the bell bug then the Syracuse player dove after the ball after Tre has already dove for the ball snd basically had possession. If they had dove simultaneously then I MIGHT could see an argument for it being an unnecessary risk but even then any good/great player is going to try their best to keep get the ball/keep the play alive. In situations like that you don’t think/expect to get hurt/injured. I would compare this to when Kyrie got hurt, yeah I know the way they got were different situations/circumstances but the principle is the same because they were both doing what they needed to do to try to help Duke win the game. When Kyrie drove to the basket on the play that he got hurt, do you think that he thought at any point “maybe I shouldn’t drive to the basket because I MIGHT get hurt”? Like several others have said, if a player doesn’t make an effort to go after the ball in that situation then any good coach would bench the player before the player could blink. It sucks that Tre got injured but I appreciate/respect the effort that he gave on the play and the time he was in the game before he got injured. He did have 2 points, 2 assists and 4 steals in the 5-6 minutes that he played. All we can do is hope that it isn’t too severe and he’s able to return sooner rather than later once he’s healed and at 100%.
