New Bracketology

Joe Lunardi currently has Duke and UNC in the same bracket with a possible meeting in the Sweet 16. Just thought it was interesting.

What would the rest of you guys think about finally meeting UNC in the tournament?

I just don't see us both landing in the same bracket. Maybe a Final Four match up if both get that far.

I would take that bracket. Nothing would say "successful season" like beating the Heels 4 times in one year.

Don't care to see that again. As I stated in another thread, it is almost impossible to beat a good team 3 times in a season! Be careful what you wish for.

I agree JC. Carolina is a good team. We were lucky to beat them the first time being down by 10 with under 3 minutes left in the game. And last weekend they pulled a small lead on us in the second half and we came back. There would be no worse feeling that to get knocked out by the Cheats and they have a team that could do it. However, ending their season would be super sweet as well!

I thought you could only meet someone in your conference in the Elite 8?

I would not want to see UNC in the tournament either.

So far this year, the team that won the 2 prior meetings won the 3rd 14 out of 18 times. I know what you mean though. I don't want to see the Heels again.

Doesn't the committee actively try to avoid rematches, particularly ones for the third or fourth time?

Believe there is a new rule which states teams from the same conference which played twice during regular season cannot meet before Elite 8.

Cheaters will not be in the elite eight this year, so no worries there.

I personally don't want to see the Heels again for a 3rd time in the ACC tourney let alone a 4th time in the NCAA tourney so hopefully UVA beats them tonight and the selection committee doesn't put them in our region. It would be sweet to say that we beat the Heels 3 or possibly 4 times in the same season but at the same time it would suck if we were to have an off game and it be against the Heels in the ACC tourney or the NCAA tourney.

Heres the official rule

"How early conference rivals can meet in the tournament will now be based on how many times they have already played prior to the tournament. If teams only have played once previously, they can be bracketed to meet as early as the "third round" (i.e. Round of 32). If they have played twice, they can't meet before the Sweet 16. If they already have played three times, they can't have a potential matchup until the Elite Eight."

Either way I trust our boys would take car of business. There wouldn't be anything better than knocking UNC outta the NCAA tourney

I agree but they seem to play out of their minds against Duke. Says a lot about this Duke team that they've been able to overcome that twice this year but I'm not thrilled about a 3rd game.

I would take that gift in a heartbeat. The Zags have a ton of skill and some heavy bigs, but I think we could bow up on them and make them uncomfortable. Justise would be very important in that matchup.

Lunardi is usually accurate in his 1-4 picks, but his matchups aren't always that accurate.

The committee will do what drives the most $$$. This tourney will revolve around UK and Cal. Money will be made, then in a few years it'll be "reversed" when Cal gets nailed for violations. Won't matter as the profit has been had. Ok, off my soapbox now. Lol.

I'd rather have Carolina in our bracket than a Iowa State or Arizona. Zags as a 2 is not bad.

I would take Lunardi's bracket as of this morning too. The only team that really scares me there is Iowa St. I love how they play and love Coach Hoiberg.

I have a feeling that Kentucky is going to get a STACKED bracket. They will want every potential game to be a huge draw. Not to mention, there might be some on the committee that will want UK to prove they are worthy of an undefeated season. Watch for a lot of Kentucky complaining.

Iowa st is my favorite team to watch when Duke isn't playing. I don't want to play them. They are capable of anything . I hope they play kentucky I think they could take them.
