Possibly. But he literally left his Alma mater for the current school, and given current recruiting patterns, plus some other rumors I saw swirling over the last few years...let's just say I don’t think it's impossible, and it would be silly not to ask.
I don't disagree.

He’d be my pick at this point
He also the only one of them who said he would like to be a college head coach, but wasn’t interested in being an assistant, even for Taylor. Best way to do this without stepping on toes would be to talk him into being an assistant at Iowa now with an agreement he is the head coach in waiting when Toms contract is done. Doubt that you could get Brands or him to agree to that, but I can dream.

You are taking this personally and you shouldn't be. This is a big move. What moves the program forward and you are focused on that culture sucks yet all the best kids want to go there. Nolf is man enough on his own to bring his own twist to a head coaching job. In my opinion the best overall wrestler i ever watched at psu in terms of scrambling and creativity. The man loves to wrestle and he loves teaching it even more just saying
He also thinks it’s very important to build the RTC to attract college recruits like Taylor is doing. Also has people in mind already that he would want on his staff.

I couldn’t agree more with all the sentiment regarding nolf, he would be a home run hire, imo.
one name not mentioned is Keegan O Toole. Very respectful and well spoken, askrens protege. Extremely high level technique and understanding of scrambling.
He’s probably head coach in waiting for Missouri.

I went and had plenty of room for my coat in the open seats all around me.. definitely had late era Fran McCaffrey vibes.
Tickets for PSU meet are always too high, and this year I think people saw the writing on the wall and said I’ll watch the massacre on TV. Everyone is crapping their pants about how great tOSU is this year. Anyone think they can make a duel with PSU close enough to keep people’s interest until the end?

Here's a question unless the coaching relationships are not built on boundaries and that is: when will either morningstar or telford step forward and say we aren't doing our job and here is my resignation. That's humbling but **** they were iowa wrestlers they have to see what's happening to the program

You don't think Iowa is one of the top 3 or so jobs in collegiate wrestling? Funding, fan base, facilities are all there. We've recently been able to get recruits interested. Hawks deserve one of the absolute best coaches available. We are not second tier in this sport in any regards except for some very recent performance.
Nolf has one connection to Iowa. He has trained with and seems to like and respect Spencer.

If Strittmeyer tries to hand Tom his letter of resignation then I don’t think Tom would be able to accept it. The whole situation might get awkward honestly.

I will let tom know that i plan on retiring in the spring. It will be awkward, but i hope he accepts it

Count me in for Dake, Yianni and whatever that looks like. Heck Palacio can be an assistant. Shapiro transfers. Loot Cornell, not VT. Smarter kids and they hate PSU on some level even if Dake has put up with because it was his best path....until now!

What would it take for Beth to fire Tom?

Right now, there is some apathy and too many empty seats at Carver.

If we do poorly at the B1G and NCAA Championships, will that be the end of the Brands' era?

Appreciate you being willing to engage but people shouldn't have to prove their fandom just to have an opinion. I've been attending the majority of home duals every year since the '93 and been to more nationals and b10 tourneys than I can remember. Had season tickets for the majority of that time.
Obviously there are a lot of psu trolls spamming the board right now but they're pretty easy to spot and they can all piss off.
That said, what does the recruitment of the Bassetts have to do with how the team is performing of late?
How is whatever you're alluding psu and the osu's are doing resource wise affecting OUR performance on the mat?
Quite a few good names of possible replacements have been shared recently. Are they all slam dunks guaranteed to bring titles back to Iowa city? Of course not. But we know what we're getting in the current staff and it's not good enough anymore.
Iowa football fans got lulled into thinking 8-4 is good enough along with the hope of a miracle run or two every decade. And maybe that's a reasonable expectation given all factors in college football (meanwhile Indiana is about to play in a national championship in 5 hours).
But when arguably the most accomplished wrestling program of the last 40 years will be lucky to place 2nd for what just the 2nd time in 5 years, things are not good enough and it's time for a change.
Hell if you'd have told TnT 17 years ago this would be the acceptable expectation at Iowa, you'd have probably gotten KO'd. Yet here we are.
To address your first comment- yes it has mostly to do trolls who I wont respond to at all, but also the so called IOWA fans that only come here to complain.
I do not want to accept mediocrity at all, but anyone who thinks we will hire a new coach and within a few seasons we will be beating PSU regularly is nuts! and that is why loosing the Basset's and Co. is such a big deal.

TnT had things going great again, how would things look to everyone if Bo was still coming to Iowa along with Melvin and the great commits we DO have coming in? please answer this hypothetical. If losing this commitment was solely on TnT then they both should resign immediately, but Im way more then 83% certain this is not the case.

I dont want to comment any further on what I do know about other programs, but there is not a single chance this would have happened to them or a few other programs

Yes I agree we look like **** right now and I dont know what happened to Endene, I have a feeling TnT once again are taking the heat but were in fact trying to do the right thing. I still think we will end this season on a high note, unfortunately probably not high enough for most.

This is not easy and there is NO quick fix. I will always be a Hawkeye fan, but if they fire TnT and hire someone wants to completely gut the culture and foundation Gable built, I will no longer be the diehard fan I have always been!

Just my opinion but has to finish 3rd or better at NCAAs.

2024 - 5th
2025 - 4th
2026 - ? - anything 4th or worse makes it 3 straight years and that’s unacceptable.

Beth should still force a shake up for assistants with 3rd or better. Unless of course they win but let’s be realistic it ain’t gonna happen.

What possible benefit would come from this? Imo this would be the exact opposite of what I'd want to see. Nolf spent 5 years in the best run program in the country plus however much time he stuck around training/coaching. Not to mention the assistants and contacts he'd have. If when the change happens a clean break would be best.

To answer your question, the Bassets coming or not would have absolutely no impact on my thoughts on the current state of the program.
As has been discussed repeatedly we have some high level guys on this roster. Multiple top 10p4p guys. But top to bottom they simply aren't developing and performing the way they should be, especially at a program like Iowa. This has been the trend for too long now and the arrow is clearly trending the wrong direction.
Was I excited to watch Bassett in black and gold? Hell yeah. But him, his brother, etc... have nothing to do with what's been going on for a few years now, nor were they going to change it.
**One more added note, you mentioned being worried about how a new coach would dismantle what Gable built... Do you not realize that's what is happening now? We are currently NOTHING like the teams and program Gable built and haven't been for some time. The program Gable built would have never been this non offensive, this passive, this poorly conditioned and this under developed.

Tom is a control freak. He wont just change out everyone below himself. And if he did it would be all new yes men to do exactly what he wants. He isn't open to change regardless if the faces change. I know it seems like the best route but it ain't gonna change as long as Tom has his choke grip on the program. You guys need to come to grips on that.
Sounds like your talking about Kirk Ferentz

Im not one to give up, but you win. Before you fire TNT can we please enjoy the rest of the season. I may be the only one left that is really looking forward to the rest of the season. Go Hawks!

If they do decide to move on from the Brands, they should Offer a blank check to Cael. I'm dead serious, too.
Could you imagine how fast heads would spin if all of a sudden Cael was Iowas coach.

idk what would be funnier Iowa fans back tracking everything or the absolutely butt hurt psu fans that would be here. You’d be able to hear their tears through their words. I think that’s a world I want to live in.

No, I think Penn State and Oklahoma State are clearly 1 and 2. Gable retired in 98. Most of these people mentioned to replace due to appeal of program, weren't even in school yet. I'd also point to the HWC and the quality there and what it attracts. Top 5, absolutely. I don't see 3 right now.
