James Franklin -- 24-15, .615 winning percentage at Vandy before PSU hired him. An 8-5 average season.

Franklin is not our coach anymore. F him. F his fanboys. And, F you.
You are making my point. Franklin was about the same at psu. Cignetti at Indiana was about the same at James madison. Campbell was only a 7 win a season coach at isu.

There was talent, for sure, but it was not properly distributed. There were glaring holes on the roster, especially at LB and DT, that the coaching staff should have either prepared for or addressed through the portal. They failed to do so.
His roster was horribly mismanaged. His game day coaching was bush league. His leadership was non existent. His coaching staff was woefully inept in the most vital areas of the modern game.

His stench is being cleaned up and jettisoned into the sky by a real, talented, and respected brand new coaching staff and anyone left over supporting his fake *** can kick rocks. It's finally over and we finally have a coaching staff AND new roster we can be proud of.

To me, the most surprising retention of the former staff is Alan Zemaitis. I didn't expect him to stay, but it suggests Matt Campbell gets the bigger picture.

I also think Alan Z and Terry B are Krafty Kraft's inside confidants advising him what was wrong with the previous regime.

Excellent leader of men. Extremely intense in the locker room. Mostly feared by his players but respected by all. Questionable family man though with a history of domestic abuse. Very confrontational. Has experience in coaching and demands the most from his players. Hates to lose, REALLY hates to lose. Looks exactly like a young Robert DuVall. Would be an interesting but controversial choice
Doesn't sound like someone PSU needs with the issues you mentioned.

Dex is the DC for the bowl game, correct? What’s his status with the new staff?

Sounds like he fits right in with the Ratbirds. He should stay there.

The core group he brought from JMU is still there. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a really good coach, but this probably isn’t sustainable at a school like Indiana.
Their recruiting is improving, they have good NIL resources and one of the best coaches in the country who adeptly uses the portal not to mention a great developer of talent. Indiana will not fade back to obscurity.

I tend to agree with you. I think this year has made them relevant going forward. However, Cig will keep getting his name called for “bigger” jobs and the AD will be under constant pressure to get more for him - more resources, more pay, improvements to facilities etc.

Indiana isn’t for everyone, and I think they'll face some recruiting headwinds for that reason alone (just like we do in state college). Their fans are surely passionate, but the gameday experience in Indiana is quite different than what you get in bigger Big10 schools. That may appeal to some, not others. Obviously money talks so a lot of it comes down to their ability to generate NIL money. It’s clear and obvious that Cig can coach, motivate, and develop talent. And now he can claim he got a guy a Heisman Trophy. The talent will continue to come, or be found by him and his staff.

I tend to think they’re here to stay, but they certainly will face a lot of pressure to regress to the mean.

Remember all these Franklin retreads going to Va Tech should be okay for their program. The expectations are far less and the level of competition is laughable. I can't remember if Hagans was hired at Va Tech. Him and O'Brien were horrific at Penn State but may look okay at Va Tech when losing 3 games is acceptable and your toughest game is Virginia or Georgia Tech or a floundering Clemson.
Or a conference champion Duke…

The BIG Champ game definitely shifted my opinion of them. Kind of reminded me of some of the old JoPa teams, sort of suffocating OSU and just not letting them ever get going. Still not sold IU is here to stay, but the beginning of the end hasn't show up yet. Life without Mendoza will be the real test.

If IU dose not win it all this year I bet Mendoza will back at IU next year.

Typical BGJ bullshirt if he had the opportunity to hire Lynn last year and picked that year's shiny object to chase after instead. Gimmicky nonsense is not good, sustainable football.

It's just not all that complicated most of the time. Know your assignment, make your reads, make a play, and TACKLE! If it takes three freaking years to 'understand your system' your system sucks.

Lynn turned us down last year and got a raise from USC. I think his interest this year might be more of a reflection of what he thinks of Franklin...

I don't think I was aware of this, really - but sounds like the older guard of letterman never really bought all the way in with BGJ.
