Looks like we have a RB coach.
St. Peter's Prep alum. Have no idea what his recruiting chops are, but he has a lot of time in PSU's traditional recruiting footprint.

I think it was St Peter’s Prep so I guess NJ/NY background instead of Philly.St. Joe's Prep alum. Have no idea what his recruiting chops are, but he has a lot of time in PSU's traditional recruiting footprint.
You are right (fixed it). Curious who will take on DMV. Terry should be able to deal with PA on his own. I also wonder if the California connection becomes a thing. Coaches on the staff, now, who have ties in Cali.I think it was St Peter’s Prep so I guess NJ/NY background instead of Philly.
10% of the people continue to try and walk the dog. Really are they fans or something else?Terrible, uninformed takes our are specialty here
Seems like there are coaches with ties to all over the country (Cali, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, etc) but it doesn’t look like anybody that knows DMV well. We’ll see if it’s a net positive. You are right (fixed it). Curious who will take on DMV. Terry should be able to deal with PA on his own. I also wonder if the California connection becomes a thing. It does appear that Campbell will concentrate recruiting more in the west and in particular California.Seems like there are coaches with ties to all over the country (Cali, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, etc) but it doesn’t look like anybody that knows DMV well. He is on record that he wants to recruit "most" of his roster within 8 hours from PSU. So, I think he will find someone for the DMV that can recruit at a high level. Having said that I do think that with the Cali/West hires he will recruit nationally. It does appear that Campbell will concentrate recruiting more in the west and in particular California.
agree- the current situation is the exception and he has to do what he has to doNot really sure we can say that at this time. I think he's just going for whatever "low hanging fruit" he can given the situation and need to rebuilt the PSU roster. We'll see more about his future recruiting strategy once the 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes are being built.
I wonder if he has recruited in the DMV? PSU needs a strong recruiting presence there. Who is it? The new RB coach is originally from NJ. Anyone know what his primary recruiting area was for BC?It’s about time! I was beginning to wonder if those rb duties were going to roll under a different coach. Jersey guy, success at BC, and the same age profile as much of the rest of the coaching staff.
That what I assume. Who is responsible for the DMV recruiting. PSU cannot afford to give ground there.I think it was St Peter’s Prep so I guess NJ/NY background instead of Philly.
No DMV familiarity on staff concerns me. That is fertile recruiting territory for PSU. What's up - who works that vital area?Seems like there are coaches with ties to all over the country (Cali, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, etc) but it doesn’t look like anybody that knows DMV well. I don't think PSU will be able to get many far west (coast) kids to come all the way east. Not really sure we can say that at this time. I’m sure they will figure it out.No DMV familiarity on staff concerns me. That is fertile recruiting territory for PSU. What's up - who works that vital area?
I’m pretty sure PSU recruited him as a player as well.St. Peter's Prep alum. Have no idea what his recruiting chops are, but he has a lot of time in PSU's traditional recruiting footprint.
Probably won't need to but the trick would be to cherry pick a couple good ones every once in a while if they can.I don't think PSU will be able to get many far west (coast) kids to come all the way east.
The wrestling team cherry picks some really good ones from the west. Although, the wrestling team also has kids knocking down the door to come to PSU. They can be very picky on who they take.Probably won't need to but the trick would be to cherry pick a couple good ones every once in a while if they can.
Yes they did.I’m pretty sure PSU recruited him as a player as well.

Money will get them to come. That's what you need anymore. The days of needing some guy from Maryland is over.No DMV familiarity on staff concerns me. That is fertile recruiting territory for PSU. What's up - who works that vital area?

As one Andrew Bynum once said, “bank in every city.”Money will get them to come. That's what you need anymore. The days of needing some guy from Maryland is over.
We need a better relationship with Terry. That will make our relationships with top players much better.RELATIONSHIPS.![]()
RB coach from BC is supposed to be solid in NJ, don’t know if he gets down into DMV. Hope we can have a good presence there. A lot more Midwest to west exposure and a very young staff is in place .Terry Smith? That would be my guess.
I was thinking the entire state of PA would be his area.Terry Smith? That would be my guess.
A fair number of coaches from ISU have hit up Western PA from their earlier days in Ohio .I was thinking the entire state of PA would be his area.
Franklin was influential in the DMV but he was seemingly able to only extract Cornerbacks, Safeties and underweight DE's (40% of his roster). No DMV familiarity on staff concerns me. That is fertile recruiting territory for PSU. What's up - who works that vital area?
I'm sure the staff will become familiar soon enough. Remember that Terry Smith is on board. He's familiar.Franklin was influential in the DMV but he was seemingly able to only extract Cornerbacks, Safeties and underweight DE's (40% of his roster).
I really don't see the DMV as that important with the exception of a few charter schools. Donkey is the only DMV roster player worth keeping. Rojas is too injury prone.

None of that matters anymore. Recruiting is a whole new ballgame. If PSU wants 4 or 5 star high-drama players from the DMV, or NJ, they’re going to have to outbid a lot of other schools. The players aren’t going to care who their recruiter is, or it’s nowhere near the importance it used to be. Under Campbell, I’m sure they’ll make a great effort to recruit the traditional Penn State recruiting areas, but I’m also thinking the 3 star-low drama kids are going to be coming from the MidwestRB coach from BC is supposed to be solid in NJ, don’t know if he gets down into DMV. You touched on something important. Unlike Franklin, I don't get the sense that Campbell and his staff are "star chasers".Under Campbell, I’m sure they’ll make a great effort to recruit the traditional Penn State recruiting areas, but I’m also thinking the 3 star-low drama kids are going to be coming from the Midwest

Great read. Thank you. Cannot be happier that PSU landed this guy. Was my first choice from the jump, followed closely by Chesney.Great bio article on CMC from PPG writer Noah Hiles. Matt was surrounded by a lot of talented coaches during his career. Seems like the kind of man JoePa would be proud to have as our coach. Link may be blocked. It is in the Lancaster Online, PA, and the PPG. A worthwhile read if you can. find it to read it.
