All.... I see they open up (home) against East St. Louis. Curious on what the Celtics have coming back and how the sophomore and freshman teams did last year. Also a schools enrollment for this season (2016-17) is established last year. What class will NLP be in? Thanks. Ratsy

Not sure about the answers to most of your questions but the Soph class is VERY good at Providence.

Celtics sophmore class very good. They have a decent amount coming back. Skill positons should be a strength. O and D lines will be young with a lot of potential. The 1 thing I love about both these schools is that they will play anyone. Should be a great game tough year for celtic dbs next year having to go against jeff thomas and ricky smalling.

What was their record? Where others playing up on the varsity or did they come down to play on the sophomore team too?

I know they went 8-1 as frosh. Not sure how many sophs were up this year but they went 8-1 again as sophs. Warfield will be back healthy as he did make it back for Rice game, Martez Malone back. Strong senior class as well should be very good bounce-back year for them. They obviously feel confident enough to schedule Flyer next 2 years week 1.The PC frosh were last place Blue at 0-4.

Dean, you are correct on the records for both years on the Soph's.

This year they had a few players moved up to Varsity, Their number one rb, who switched to corner until Ritchie got hurt, another corner who went up for the year and their number one d-lineman that helped out the o-line.

Providence is really big on leaving groups together for all four years, and only move kids up on necessity. The kids that were moved up, stayed up and only played varsity, except for near the end of he season, when they let the qb and another corner get some playing time at the varsity level for experience.

8-1 not bad especially if they had playing up. Did MC bet them?

traditionally Providence keeps their groups together? Maybe that's a Cogs thing it wasn't a Senffner thing at all... I think the Senffner theory of moving kids up was much more effective and worked much better.

This Soph group was pretty good. Defensively they were very good. The biggest strength was by far the front 7. Defensive line and ILB's were rugged and that's putting it mildly. But other than that I think they were above average at QB and laiden with average players everywhere else.

They were lucky to beat Loyola but Rita was Lucky to beat Providence.

The program though didn't have a very strong Frosh team having gotten lumped on in the CCL,.

Word on the street is PC coulda had Montini and or LW EAST for non conference. Sadly they passed on them. If you gotta battle LWE for kids make that Game 1 on your schedule and win kids by winning that game every year.

Can you give some examples of the seff era with bringing people up. Like the previous poster said they had three sophomores start on varsity. As far as there schedule the catholic blue is the toughest confrence is the state. And pc always has one of the toughest ooc schedules every year.

playing a tough schedule is no excuse for anything. What used to be a top program in the state is far far away from the glory days.

Do you want to be mentioned in the same breath as with Montini, Loyola, SHG, Marist...

Or do you prefer The 2nd tier teams?

Examples from what level?
PC very own OL coach moved up from sophs to varsity and started 14 games. He never looked back.

There are countless frosh moving up to sophs over the years. Some never played a down until their frosh year but wear such good athletes they warrented it!

Keeping a "class together" doesnt reward the class, it weakens those that can excel when being challenged. Thats a Seff theory verbatium!

First off all they had three sophomores that started from week two or three in the season. I think you miss interpreted the previous posters comments. I took it as if they are not going to start then they will not be brought up.
Secondly you are absolutely right they aren't the Celtics of 94 until 2004, but I don't know if anyone in the upper classes will ever go on a run like that. To add to that why did u mention marist they do not belong with that group. PC is still a better program then marist.
Lastly nick passalano was not brought up during the regular season his sophmore year. And may have been the defensive mvp during the playoffs.

nick was simply unblockable and an incredibly smart player.

Better program than Marist!? Which year? The one 13-1 year or the multiple 4-5 loss seasons they have had?

Three sophs start on varsity this year?

Maybe at the end. Not before week 5/6.

Any way. Time to end this. Been fun.
