new Mission Statement for the Department of Homeland Security

I have never liked the term Homeland Security. I never thought we needed a whole separate entity for it, either.
Just another branch of govt to pay for.
It's impossible to completely protect an open society like ours from attack. Especially when artificial barriers were put in place between some of the agencies.
Clearly President Bush wasn't small government. It should be noted HS's budget was just under $1 billion when it was created. Last year's budget was just under $39 billion.
Of course an all encompassing agency was never needed. The separate agencies were more than needed. A very awkward method to allow FBI and CIA to communicate, but a monstrosity like this was never the answer. After 9/11 the people were demanding a seamless security, one in which nothing could fall thru the cracks. Really surprised that the bulkiness has not been demanded to be streamlined and broken back down by function. Quickest way for our government to ensure total overlook of her citizens. Bad deal, but have to take the theory for the need for the law at that time in the history of the country.
Precisely, why I had a problem with Pres Bush. Why I had a real problem with Gorelick, I called her Gore Lick, and congress that prohibited the FBI and the CIA from at least consulting each other over threats.
When we moved back here and I found out Lincoln County had it's own Director of the DoHLS, I nearly lost it. My guess is the Muslims were on the verge of invading Sod.
