Looking forward to the new Foo Fighters album due out in September. And I like the EP that Greta Van Fleet released recently. What else am I missing that's out right now?

What I've bought in last couple months...

Jarekus Singleton - Refuse to Lose
Damon Fowler - Sounds of Home
Selwyn Birchwood - Pick Your Poison
Left Lane Cruiser - Claw Machine Wizard
Gov't Mule - Revolution Come...Revolution Go
Royal Blood - How Did We Get So Dark
The Strypes - Little Victories
The Strypes - 4 Track Mind (EP)
The Strypes - Snapshot

First three above are pretty much straight-up Blues. Not sure if that's your cup of tea? The rest are Rock or Blues-Rock. Love The Strypes. Young band out of Ireland. Killer stuff, IMHO!

And a couple from earlier this year that are really good, and still in regular rotation..

Doyle Bramhall II - Rich Man
Devon Allman - Ride Or Die
Supersonic Blues Machine - West of Flushing, South of Frisco
The Temperance Movement - White Bear

Left Lane Cruiser is badass. Mule just plain kicks ***. I'm still missing Woody after all these years

Ditto on the Greta Van Fleet EP. So, so cool. Has an old school, Led Zeppelin-ish feel. Can't wait for them them to release their first full length record.

A great band I forgot to mention. Federal Charm. A british rock band. They have two albums out, and both are really good. Unfortunately, their front man left the band a couple months ago. They quickly found a new vocalist and will carry on.

Totally love Warren Haynes, and I want to love GM as a whole... I just have a hard time with their music. Yes, the Deep End albums are incredible, but after that, their discography is severely lacking. And look, I own ALL their ****. They just always seem to disappoint time after time. Outside of Deep End, I never listen to ANYTHING from the rest of their catalog. They could be SO much more with just a decent song writer. Bought 'Dark Side of the Mule' on vinyl and after hearing it, swore the band off until I hear something better from them.

Not new (20 years old), but Tom Waits' best buddy, John Hammond (the blues guy), did an album of nothing but Wait covers called "Wicked Grin." It was recntly pushed onto me and I can't stop listening to it.

In other news, I have a NM, still in shrink, frst pressing of The Ohio Players "Gold" in the mail to be delivered to me today. Pretty damned stoked to crank some Fopp tonight.

As bad as it hurts to agree, I agree. Dose is easily in my top ten albums ever, you don't listen to Dose either? I saw Mule in '95 with about 6 other people in the room. I hang on to these things knowing Warren and Matt can do magic and I hope it comes back but like you stated everything they've done has been lacking. I'm a live music guy and love seeing Mule live but not like I did late 90s or early 2000s.

I keep hoping when they release something new that it will be Dose part 2. Not in title, but just essence

I'm the resident metal guy. I've been jamming:

Havok (thrash band from Colorado)

and

Mastodon (good metal band that turned into a great rock band over the years)

Have always been a Mastodon fan. I think they took metal as far as they could musically and now are more rock oriented . This is a good thing. Will check out Havoc soon.

Some fans hate that they don't sound like they did in 2004, but I don't mind seeing a band evolve and IMO Mastodon is killing it with the rock thing. Their last four albums have been pretty damn solid.

I would describe Havok as a hybrid of Megadeth and Slayer. They have the musical technicality + political-inspired lyrics of Megadeth with the more aggressive vocals and precision drumming of Slayer. (They're libertarians, so the political stuff should be palatable to libs and cons)

I saw the bitching and moaning when "Show Yourself "was released. Meanwhile, that track got played on regular rock radio. I remember when Mastodon only got played after midnight on Saturday night!

BTW what was the 1st metal group you followed? Mine was Carcass.

For my country folks, the new Chris Stapleton album is really good. But it's too damn short. Nine tracks, 30 minutes.

I was a huge Megadeth mark. All my other friends were on Team Metallica. I like them a lot too, but for my money Metallica won the battle from 1983-1988 but Megadeth has destroyed them from 1990 onward. Give me Rust In Peace over the Black album any day. I've seen Megs live 7 times with probably 6 different lineups because Mustaine is Mustaine. Lol.

Carcass rips. Heartwork and Symphonies of Sickness are my favorite albums of theirs. They, along with a lot of death metal, was an acquired taste for me, but once I got used to the harsh vocal style it was all \m/ from there.

I saw Carcass for the first time in England while on NATO duty. Funny thing was, I was supposed to be going to a Smiths show but that was during the time that band was imploding. So I ended up watching Carcass. Their live shows were INTERESTING to say the least .

Greta Van Fleet - I like what I've heard. But they also sound really young and, of course, very derivative of Zeppelin. I wonder how much of the hype they are getting is because there are not very many (basically none) new bands playing that kind of music. I recall in the 80s when Kingdom Come (not a great band but alright) came out, they were derided for being a Zeppelin "clone".

They are young...18-19 yr olds maybe 20. Seems like I read that 3 of them are related...Brothers or cousins.

Yeah, if they are a one trick pony and it all sounds Zeppelin-ish then I will get tired of them quick. But they are young and obviously have a little talent...maybe they can evolve into something decent that stands on its own.

For now...I like the Zep clone quality of their music. Seems like a reasonably decent ploy for a breakthrough EP.

This **** is kick ***. An actual real band making real music. I'm down with it. Want to see how they sound on a full length CD which hopefully they are working on. They really do sound like a 70s band.

I was lead down the path of Rival Sons for the exact same reasons- they sounded like the closest thing to LZ.

Funny how you tend to get burned out on that sound, over and over.

I think "new" is subjective in music lol. I don't tend to buy new albums since I can enjoy an album for so long. I'll usually just look over albums about once a year. But the last 2 albums I enjoyed were from last year.

I really got into Katatonia when they released their live album a couple years ago. It was an acoustic thing, and now most of their rock is pretty mellow. I really like Shifts.

And then

Trees of Eternity had a really nice album. Really like this song. But the whole album is kind of bittersweet. The girl singing died of cancer shortly after the album was released
