There are only 15 players, or so, on a roster. Why does basketball need numbers up to 99? Have schools retired so many numbers that up to 55 won't work anymore? LOL

Of all the things that need to be improved in college basketball, jersey numbers would be among the last considerations. Maybe they should require teams to wear the same color of shoes, or stop calling them "uniforms" and just call them "outfits." The craziness has to stop somewhere, doesn't it?

Agree. Stuff just getting out of control. Used to be each team wear one standard shoe. Good look. Now 5 players on floor with the same team and 5 different pairs of shoes and 3 different colors.

I believe they did it originally so the ref’s could use a two hand signal to the scores table to identify the player who fouled. With TV now probably not needed anymore.

A loaf of bread used to cost a nickel, and it didn't come in fancy plastic bags with it already sliced. Why did they need to change it?

Since it was a single hand, ‘5’ was the highest number. Also 1 and 2 were not allowed as that indicated the number of foul shots.

1 and 2 became available in the 1999/2000 season

KSB....

I happen to have the first game worn #1 Jersey for Iowa from that season framed.

1st game of Steve Alford era
Beat #1 UCONN in that game.

Trivia...
Who's jersey was it?
