I know, I know....doesn't mean much, but it's good fodder, nonetheless.

Villanova will obviously climb to #1, as they should. Are we #2? I think we likely move to #2 in the Coaches poll being that we were above Kansas, but the Jayhawks were above us in the AP last week. Do they become the new #2 there?

Any predictions on how the new top five looks when it's released later today? Of the top six in both polls last week, you have UNC, UK and Virginia who all lost. Villanova, Duke and Kansas are cinches to be in there, obviously. Who joins them? I'm going to say UCLA makes a big jump to #4 and Kentucky or Xavier is at five.

The first three will have clear separation, I think. Teams 4-9 will be much tighter in overall votes: UNC, Kentucky, UCLA, Indiana, Baylor, and Gonzaga. I think Baylor has the most impressive resume thus far. I'll take a stab at the top 10 picks.

1. Villanova: (wins over Purdue, Central Florida, St.Joseph's, Wake Forest)
2. Kansas (wins over Duke, Georgia, Stanford)
3. Duke (wins over Michigan State, Rhode Island, Penn State)
4. Baylor (wins over Oregon, Michigan State, Louisville, Xavier)
5. UCLA (wins over Kentucky, Nebraska, Texas A&M)
6. Kentucky (wins over Michigan State, Arizona State)
7. Indiana (wins over Kansas, UNC)
8. UNC (wins over Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, Chattanooga)
9. Gonzaga (wins over Arizona, Iowa State, Florida, San Diego St)
10. Creighton (wins over Wisconsin, NC State, Ole Miss, Washington State)

I agree with the above. I would have a very hard time putting Duke ahead of Kansas, with KU having the head-to-head, and KU's one loss not being a "bad" one.

I think we move to #3 behind KU.

Nova
KU
Duke
UNC
UCLA
UK
Baylor

This one looks good to me. guru gary said the officials blew 7 or 8 calls during the IU game and if they had not unc would be #1 but maybe because of that factor they should be #2 or #3. IU may make a big jump with the 2 wins over KU and unc. Be interesting to see his take on it when the polls come out. OFC

Strictly discussion fodder from the mothership. UCLA earned a jump for sure but not sure about Baylor. It'll be interesting to see how UCLA can keep it up now that teams have more tape on them. But Ball is dynamic and the type of player that can get a team deep in the tourney.

Still impressive to see 8 ACC teams in the top 31 though.

Little surprised there was no movement on our front, but I understand it. Let's keeping getting wins and go from there.

I thought we could have been #4 but no problem here. The top two are unbeaten, KU beat us and Baylor is undefeated. This time next week everything will change. OFC

Baylor is undefeated with wins over Xavier, Louisville, Oregon, VCU and Michigan State. Their #4 ranking is much deserved.

It doesn't really mean very much, at this point in the season, if we're 5, 4, or 3, but I still find this poll a little weird. We lost on a last second shot to KU, and we've been the #5 team since. And that's without our 3 stud freshmen. Now we get 2 of the 3 back, rest 2 of 5 starters from the #5 team in the country (without the 3 studs), and don't miss a beat (even if it is Maine, at home). UCLA beats UK (at Rupp, that is impressive...but) jumps 9 positions (and over Duke) off that one W. Up until Kentucky, the Bruins hadn't exactly played a killer schedule. It's no big deal, but kinda crazy to me. Yeah, and Baylor also jumped over our Devils...wtf.
The best thing is that Duke will ultimately take care of business on the court, and order will be restored.

Actually, thank you for that. I didn't know those were their wins so far and that makes much more sense.

Yea I can kinda see Baylor making a big jump. They do have some impressive wins, but just don't see Ucla jumping nine spots because of beating uk. I'm not sweating it now. It'll all work it's self out in the end and I have no doubt we'll be a one seed come tourney time.

We should be higher but I'm ok with it. I don't like UCLA but I'm kinda excited for them and Alford

True, I didn't really take into consideration their tournament wins. That resume puts them in the #1 discussion IMO.

Baylor deserves to be ranked ahead of us .UCLA?..Mehh that's quite a leap.Dont you love the media though! There's a new best team in the country every week. You would think by now they would just say Duke is the best team in the country so they never have to contradict themselves again the rest of the season;)Especialy now that we're somewhat healthy:)
