Remember when we used to use card tables in the Nutter to lure recruits???
I don't know if Mark Stoops is the long-term answer. I believe in him, I think he could be, and I really, really hope he is, but I will say this much on his behalf. If not for him, there's a very, very realistic chance that we're still using card tables and fold up chairs at the Nutter to keep the visiting recruits at. There may not be a new world-class training facility, there may not be a massive upgrade to CWS. We can all thank Stoops for that.
Many people may look at our improvement solely in the record books, and that should be heavily valued. We went from barely scraping by to get 2 wins, to being one play away in numerous games, and having a realistic shot at winning 9 games this past year (but clearly coming up short, and walking away with 5). That said, if you don't honestly believe that Stoops has brought Kentucky a very long way from where it was, you're kidding yourself. After all of the renovations, the new facilities, better equipment, the upgraded stadium, the exponentially better recruiting, and being significantly more competitive than we have been in the past, I think it's very clear that Stoops has already done very much for the University of Kentucky. I think he'll continue to improve our program, and we'll continuously get better and better until we're a high level program nationally.
We've recruited really good players, we've shown improvements overall from year to year, and we're just now finishing up on football facilities that rival any you'll see in the entire country. Now, let's field a team, have a really good season, get to a bowl and win, and bring in some even more talented players. Let's expand the stadium, add more visual appeal to it, draw more national attention to the program, and win even more games the following year. By that time, everybody will have bought in to what the staff is doing, Kentucky will be the hot new program to play for, and sky's the limit. I would love nothing more than to see these things happen, and I completely believe in our staff's ability to do this.
