Isn't the cite that OP includes someone "actually reporting on it?"

Not really, given that it's a press release, not a news article.

If anybody was wondering whether press releases and paid PR work, this thread is strong evidence that they do.

From what I have read the marketing group (Laundry Service) employeed a former Papa John executive and when they were being let go decided to lead the charge to smear John.
Not sure how one doucebag trying to get revenge on another douchebag is liberals or leftist, but nice effort to push your agenda on any and everything.

I’m not conservative, or even libertarian or anarchist, but one of the main problems with you people is an astonishing lack of self awareness, simply no clue whatsoever that yes, your chit stinks too.

One thing that stinks is that after they got JS out they moved corporate to Atlanta. PJs did a lot of charitable things in Ky.
I think this was part of the plan. Get rid of JS, whitewash the whole place of JS and his people, move corporate HQ.

I’ve always had the impression that he was a bag.....but he got railroaded. Hope he cleans their clock and somehow gets back what’s his. Louisville lost a great business out of a sham regardless of what you think of him or their pies.

As a guy that likes PJ. pizza I'm curious ... if you order a carry out pie who do you like ? Pizza Hut is awful , Donatos is terrible , Dominoes is a inch better than frozen , ?? who is you go to ?

Who the hell orders chain pizza?? Haven’t had it in years. I guess you live in a small rural town with no options?

I think he was talking about loss of value/goodwill. Franchisees took a hit and lost customers and sales when Papa John was accused of being racist, and that loss of value is actually huge, possibly in the billions. As for Laundry Service not being a deep pocket, I won't get into that.

I order chain pizza, and I like PJ's. Actually had it last night. The new stuffed crust is pretty good, and my fat @ss loves those regular breadsticks with the cheese dipping sauce. Sometimes Pizza Hut, sometimes LaRosa's. Don't like Domino's, too bland.

Q: Do you have children, Ron?

I used to deliver for a friend that ran his own pizza place with actual good pizza. One night me and a Papa John's guy showed up at the exact same time. They explained that my pizza was for the adults and PJ was for the kids. All chains suck.

The stock price has increased by over 50 percent since immediately prior to that event so the brand seems to have gained value not lost. How have franchisees lost billions?

I have 2 with one on the way. TBH Friday night is “pizza night” and I actually make coscto frozen pizzas for the kiddos which I find delicious. But I live in a larger city and there are countless great and local pizza places that are extremely good and only marginally more expensive. Literally been over 10 years since I’ve ordered from a chain.

Fair enough. If it's just me and the missus, we aren't ordering in pizza. but when my girls are with us (who are high school/college age), they love to have a pizza night, and don't care to venture much off the beaten path.

For me " town". is 20 min away and consist of 4-5 mom n pop joints .. none worth getting excited about . Its sad .. I get frustrated with eating average pizza but it is what it is . I also dont have any home around mine within 1/2 a mile . I';ll take the trade off.

Stock prices are usually based on anticipated future business performance. Just because they have righted the ship since (bringing Shaq in as owner and celebrity endorser was a good business move) doesn't mean sales didn't suffer in the immediate aftermath, and for about a year thereafter, which would not have happened in the absence of the "John Schnatter is a racist" story.

I would be willing to bet that with Covid and the demand for quick cheap pizza that Papa John individual franchises in most places didn’t get hurt.

Now a franchise in a bigger city with lots of choices might have seen a slight downturn.

I prefer non-chain local options, but if I have to go chain I prefer Dominos. Their pizza is pretty decent since they changed their recipe. I used to never eat Dominos sober. Pizza Hut is too greasy for me. Little Caesars is cheap but you get what you pay for.

Papa John’s is dead last among the chains for me because it’s soggy and rubbery and gives me heartburn every time I eat it.

when I worked at a hotel in downtown Louisville Spinellis would give us a free one top pizza whenever we wanted, and Sicilian would give us half off. Spinellis is nothing special but free is free. But man the chicken alfredo pizza from Sicilian is money

The media needs to be held accountable for their actions. If there is a lawsuit that is justified, it needs to be made. People and other entities need to fact check and call outlets out on it as well.
This is one jury I would like to be on. But look at all their ages. Is anyone over 40? Truth telling was not part of their upbringing me thinks.
