Our next coach needs to check a lot of criteria, some he will some will probably be somewhat of a question mark.

A couple for me that are critical are; 1) To instill a physical toughness at the line of scrimmage (both sides of the ball) and; 2) Be able to modernize our passing game while attracting and developing elite QBs and WRs.

Beyond this though is recruiting. I am not talking about the portal which is also very very important and maybe can be lumped into the general recruiting bucket. However, I am talking about old fashioned HS recruiting.

I think Franklin was overrated in this area. He was pretty good but not elite by any means. Maybe he was limited by NIL who knows exactly.

Recruiting if not at least maintained but hopefully elevated is an area if not done well can crush the program. We are not Nebraska because we are in a great location to attract top level talent. Maryland, Va, NJ and of course PA still turn out good talent. If we start to lose that edge then it will not be good. I know NIL is a big part of it but the guy still needs to put in the work to recruit (Franklin did do this) and be a great, genuine sales person for the program.

One other note, this is more NIL related but is germane to recruiting. I think Franklin did not know how to manage the dynamic of managing a roster in the NIL area. He could not attract the high end HS guys while managing the current roster NIL budgets. He tried to appease all the current guys egos. I think this happened more than just this past offseason. Add to that he probably lost the confidence of the big donors the last couple of years (when NIL took off) because of his horrible big game failure which limited his NIL pool. So on top of the HS recruiting prowess we need a guy who is astute and competent in managing a roster full of NIL.
