Big time is beating #1 at home and storming the court and being lead story on SportsCenter.
Of course
It still would be worth playing a premier big ten team at the garden each year, where we alternate sacrificing a home game every other year
The plus is, maybe we play a Michigan state at the garden instead of their place, so that is the upside of it

I don't know if St John's is creating a buzz, or drawing well, but if they are not we can embarrass them with our turnout and enthusiasm
Show how we can represent the area

Agree. And we should be in one of the annual MSG holiday tournaments. The Jimmy V one is too perfect . Somone is sleeping behind the wheel if they’re not pushing for RU to be the annual staple in that one
It's our coach. He is not sleeping, he is very aware of schedule.

The RU vs UM game a few years back at MSG was awesome...HUGE Turnout and got to make an entire day/night of it with friends and family. I would like to do that at least once per year

So is this replacing a home game at the RAC or is this a tournament or neutral site type deal?

More than fine with the latter and hate if it’s the former.

Do not agree with you at all @wheezer or any of you with moving a HOME game there.

1. Some kind of tournament, fine.
2. NYC-type opponent, sure.
3. B1G away, eh

First two should happen every year. Or alternate so we are there.

We don’t have to be the HOME team to make it a home game.

regarding big 10 games,
it is not that bad a tradeoff if we get what would be an away big 10 game at the garden the next year

I don't know if you were at the Michigan game at the garden, but it was a great atmosphere and made RU very proud...

again, as far as next years situation, maybe we don't get to play USC at all if not for the garden... so I would not consider that particular game a loss of a home game.

I would not accept a return game at their place, if that is the deal....I would only go out there and play them at a similar arena off campus, assuming there is a MSG type place

In 2004 when we lost to Michgan at The Garden, I took my son and daughter by train
and it was a great great time. The enthusiasm
on the train, at the game, down town before
and after was incredible. We will never forget
even though we lost.

Heaven, love all you bring to the site, but why would we take busses when we own the trains?
There is nothing like taking the train to MSG. Just a field of scarlet cheering all the way. We owned MSG at the NIT semis and finals. Great atmosphere at the MBB/Wrestling DH a few years ago. Would love to be in the Jimmy V tournament (we should be the host team) every year!

I think it’s a great idea to be there with the conditions I mentioned above.

Why take a home date away and the advantages of playing at the RAC. Very minor.....if I am St. John's recruiting against Rutgers I bring up the fact that everyone wants to play at the Garden. Rutgers gives up a home game just to play there.

I can stomach it more if it is during student's winter break.

we may give up a home game in alternating years, but considering how this team has played on the road in the Big Ten, it is a tradeoff worth taking.
Michigan travels well to MSG, but with most other Big Ten teams, we will have a more decided home court advantage, even in games where we are the "road" team.
It would also show as a neutral court win, which would be beneficial in tournament resumes.

This will always be the case which is why the “giving up” part I am not a fan of for this scenario.

Would not mind playing there every year under the circumstances I laid out earlier in the thread.

Agree with @Greene Rice FIG here.

Holy **** you like to complain. Yea, taking a game like Central Conn State away is really going to hurt us. Who even wants to sit through those **** games. This is basketball. Taking one game and playing it at MSG is tremendous for this program. I don't know if you know this but every kid in the world would give his left nut to play at MSG. I mean you can't be for real when you see how many poor programs we schedule in basketball every year at home. Taking 1 game against a high major and placing it at MSG is way better.

We can do and get all this without giving a up home game…

- tournament
- NYC local team
- neutral site match up

Just like playing Temple at the Linc for football, even being away feels like a Rutgers game.

I get what you're saying but I mean who really cares about giving a home game away? This isn't football where every home game matters. So we don't play St Mary's Home of the Blind. I have no real interest in watching or even paying for those scrimmages.

Talk to me when there is demand for 12,000 people ready to pay to watch a game at MSG.

I am leaving in 48 minutes to go to the RAC. I will go and watch 15-16 games this year. I don’t have an interest in going in to NYC to see a home game in a 1/2 filled pro arena.

I fixed the date on my post it was 2004 not 2020. It was the NIT game with Quincy Douby
and Herve Lamanza.

You have to think there are a ton of fans/alumni who don't make the trek down to the RAC that want to see Rutgers play. Getting them out to these events could lead to more people jumping on board as fans/donors/season ticket holders over time

There are 2 things missing on the Rutgers resume. MSG and a kid in the NBA. Coach K recognized early on that playing in Cameron north would reap dividends recruiting wise. And it did.Wise man.

Many do.

Play a local NYC team at MSG instead of some of the other OOC opponents and there is the MSG fix.

I’m sure Iona, Fordham, Manhattan or St. John’s would love to play us there where they are the home team (on paper).

I find this a terrible take.
Several of my best Rutgers memories are at MSG.
It's not a nameless, faceless pro arena.

For a while the BE and SJU made MSG a much less interesting venue, except during the BET.

But now it can be back in part with us as a feature team.

Not for a home B1G unless there is a home and home at the Garden like with UM. Or a home and home at an equivalent arena. Not a home and home what we visit someone and they play at the Garden.

Circumstances matter.

But neutral court games at the Garden are good for us.

I understand the faction of our fans that don't want to give up home games, but that refers to conference games where it creates an imbalance of home/away/neutral site games. But this is an out of conference game, so you aren't "giving up" a home game, we're just not paying for one against a lower level team. This is done for the revenue and the resume building.

Being at that Michigan game and watching all those Michigan videos on the jumbotron and everything else that went w that being a Michigan home game made me wish it was the other way around. I'd have no problem giving up a RAC game to get the Garden rocking for Rutgers. And as far as a local team, who would care about a Rutgers/Iona game?? Even St John's would be a dud, no matter the home team

UCONN would be the gold standard for me. Same page though, I don’t see a problem with sacrificing a home game against a terrible team (no upside and big downside) for a neutral site game at MSG against a quality opponent (high upside and low downside). I do hope it’s late in the non-conference schedule so the team has time to gel.

No one complained in the late 70’s, even after the RAC was opened. It was THE Garden. That game there in ‘77 or 78 against Cincinnati with Catlett coaching was one of the best Rutgers games I ever attended.
