Is Grier the heir apparent? Will our D be weaker or stronger with the expected departures?

Given we'll have 5 road games in conference, not to mention the OOC slate, what should we expect as a fanbase?

***This is based on the premise that Holgorsen and company are back next year. Any coaching change likely guarantees no better than a 6-6 or 7-5 year.

I would think offensively we might be better. We need a better kicking game which includes coverage. Looks like we return decent players in the linebacker spot, I would imagine Dline might be a little weaker. We are probably going to be weaker in the defensive backfield. My guess, weaker overall on D but an improve kicking game could make up for some of it.

I will be shocked if our defense is weaker next year. Look at this year, we weren't supposed to be this good this year and we are 6-1 with the best defense in the Big 12.

As far as offense goes, we will have most of our weapons back (Shell, Shorts, Howard are gone). With the addition of Grier, that should be a bit of an upgrade I'd think at the QB position.

Does anyone know about Crest? Is he still on the team? He's not seen the field at all since the first couple of games. There were packages that included him as a slot WR or QB in short yardage. And what about Chugz? I can't imagine he will be willing to wait around on Grier's time to finish.

Coal Bucket,

Those questions deserve an answer. Just don't put much stock in what you get as answers and I don't care where the responses come from. Warez

We would win more games next year If Shane Lyons would promote Tony Gibson to HC. He is the true mastermind in the current situation. This is the Boise State scenario of the early 2000's when Dan Hawkins got all the credit but Chris Peterson did all the work. History will prove the same here.

We will be legit next year, preseason top 15 IMO and one of the favorites to win the Big 12.

Plus BU and OU both lose their QBs, and Rudolph and Mahomes will probably leave after the season for the NFL.

Grier should be in the running for best QB in the nation. He was the best during his few games in 2015 playing for UF before the steroids deal.

Yeah, can't imagine both of the QB's sticking around next year. Especially Chuggs. Good question on Crest, think he would see the field at some capacity, but who knows what's going on behind closed doors.

Tyler Orlosky will be the biggest loss on offense ..... and I think that will be a big loss.

I have to agree with you losing Orlosky to graduation is concerning. Hopefully with the solid o-line recruiting we've had it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Seems though there is always the QB question every season. Like to see us get a star RB like a Steve Slaton, Quincy Wilson or a Amos Z. With the WR we have that would make for a very dangerous offense IMO.

We also have quite a few juniors/seniors starting on this D. We're going to be younger next year, but Askew-Henry returning will be a major boost to our secondary.

I definitely agree with others that center could be the wildcard on how well our offense performs. If we have a coaching change, I don't expect us to be beyond 6 wins, even with all this talent.

Come on. You don't really mean this, do you? Gibby is great as DC. The offense is still Dana and moving Gibby to HC would not be a change in the positive direction for either the defense or offense. He would be more diluted so far as the defense is concerned. He would have to hire an OC, which would set us back considerably there. I would see this as a poor move by Lyons (would not come as a surprise though, since, as I see it, he is very prone to making bonehead, blunder decisions relative to this team.

Weaker on the D. I thought everyone said the D would be weak this season. Do not doubt Gibson and the D. They started this year slow but have improved each game.
