If you are not going to allow anyone else to broadcast a game, I would suggest getting it right. The feed for the Loyola MS game was awful. No feed for 1st quarter, 2nd quarter was spotty and remainder of game was so-so at best. @IHSA you want to profit from those watching online, GET IT RIGHT.

If I am correct the feeds that NFHS gets are from the team at the game broadcasting it. As someone posted before there are many things that could be affecting the feeds. I've seen camera shots zoomed in too close,or not even on the line of scrimmage....even had a game where I was watching the feet of fans in the stands.

I may be totally wrong about this but I doubt that NFHS sends people out to set up feeds of the games. They are just providing the outlet for fans to get access to games. While the feeds my not all be the greatest I am happy for the chance to view some games I might not of been able to see otherwise.

Completely agree re getting access to games. My point was that if they are going to charge a fee for the service and not allow anyone else the broadcasting rights, the game should at least be view-able. I did get a chance to take a look at some other feeds while the Loyola MS game was not working.

Oh well, if that's my biggest problem, life is okay.

I understand where you are coming from. When I heard what they were charging schools for rights I was surprised. When I looked into it I found out that schools would not be charged a broadcast fee if they met some criteria, one being it must be done by the students and another was it must be able to accessed on a school website or similar.I actually watched the Coal City/Richmond-Burton game on Coal Citys website. Watched the Sterling/Boylan game and it had great graphics, replays etc...but it was adults announcing the game. Not sure if students were involved in any of the production but they did have sponsors it appeared so I assume they footed the broadcast fee bill.

You are right that if that is our biggest complaint in life then we are doing good.

There are times where NFHS does send people out, especially the deeper into the post season. The state finals are on NFHS but are most definitely not produced by either school. Your best bet is look at the produced by by-line on the NFHS page and it'll tell you who actually filmed it.

As to the adult voices, I'll say that's a mixed bag as I've seen places have a camera man that just taps into the field's sound system for audio so you're hearing the field PA announcer, not necessarily a dedicated video announcer. Obviously every place is different so all sorts of possibilities.

Judging by the no video first quarter, bad quality the second quarter, and average for the rest, my guess is they were trying to use a hotspot with their quality too high and it kept giving them warnings to back it off. While a person is switching, there won't be video and/or it will be terrible.

I have excellent internet pipe - streamed two games at a time, no issues, except for "local broadcast" issues. Most times, they don't have the sufficient pipe for upload or fast enough processors. I do not think the NHFS data feed is the issue, at least recently during the playoffs.

the goldenwarriortv.com crew is mostly, if not all, recent grads and "seasoned" adults. and there have been times when students help out. any revenue generated from the broadcasts go to the athletic programs at sterling hs. it's proven to be a great fundraiser.

I wish people here would talk to people in Sterling to see what they have done there. The facilities in Sterling are awesome especially for a 5A school.Pretty envious from where I am sitting.

Sterling ... the name tells you everything. Silver is at $14.10 an ounce.

Haha that would be nice. Without going into too much detail because I don’t want to give out false information, we are very blessed to have a foundation that plays a very important role in fundraising/matching contributions of donors. That is all tied into a long time “anonymous donor”. A lot of initiatives like the 1 to 1 MacBooks the students get are collaborations with the school and the foundation.

In addition to the donations, the foundation gets the advertisers lined up for the new video board and the broadcasts so those pay for themselves (non tax dollars). This is led by the man on the broadcasts. I know some on here have expressed their feelings about our broadcasts but fact is it’s a homer broadcast by people very passionate about the school who also play an intregal part in a lot of what is seen around campus. I know when I’m on the road for work I’m very glad we have them on Friday nights.

In addition, things like the stadium refurbishing and multi use facility put up on the middle school campus (down the block from the high school) are being done through a sales tax that passed a couple years back. The new facility has 4 new basketball courts, an area for the batting cage, and I believe the fine arts wing for the middle school (art, chorus, and band rooms).

For lack of a better way to put it, it’s been a perfect storm over the last 5-10 years for the town. For years, there might be a successful season or two mixed in with a string of average ones. Lately we’ve been lucky to combine some athletic and hard working classes of kids with some dedicated coaching staffs. Mix that in with the amazing facilities and it’s led to some sustained success across multiple programs.

I know there’s a poster on here that will be able to correct me on things I’m wrong on. I’m just a volunteer girls basketball coach that has a lot of pride in what’s going on.

one clarification regarding the sales tax - it was a county-wide sales tax that was approved by voters and that revenue is shared with all of the public schools in the county.

i'm surprised more high schools don't use the nfhs network (or something similar) to raise revenue for their athletic programs. if we can do it at a school of 1000+ students, 53% of whom are considered low income, i can only imagine what bigger schools in more affluent communities could do. or maybe there are more schools doing it and i'm not aware.

I’ve watched Sterling’s for years, I mirror it on my Apple TV and the production is like watching an NFL game, I always assumed all schools productions were just as good but then watched a couple different games this year and saw the difference, I also heard the difference in our announcers, I like the fact our announcers our homers, if ya don’t like it, don’t watch it and watch your own schools production!

I totally agree. I was in Atlanta for work and tried to catch the LA-MS game this past weekend. What a disaster. Why are we paying the monthly fee? Ridiculous.

Bless you for your service. I have no such coaching skills, but two of my nephews coached girls sports and they loved every minute. One still sees former players while shopping at Jewel, etc., and they always make a point of fussing over him.

I'm disappointed that so few Edgy posters post the score ... even though they're commenting on the game they're watching.

Because there are no options for watching a stream of a game. There’s no reason for the IHSA or NFHS to improve the product.

For anyone wanting to follow the Rice- Marist score Saturday, check out the BrotherRiceTV handle.

https://twitter.com/BrotherRiceTV

They have a Crusader bias, but they update frequently and will let you know when big plays happen, if a team is driving and every turnover. They sometimes do live video when a team is in the redzone.
