NFL combine

Only two Huskers invited: EJ and Singleton. Thoughts?
I've been following the combine a little bit. It isn't hard to figure out why Penn State kicked our ***. They had a defensive tackle run a 4.7 and they have an offensive guard who is a monster and a second offensive lineman there as well.

Then Iowa has three offensive linemen at the combine one of who absolutely humiliated Von Poppel on this play. All of the Iowa kids are home grown and didn't have to be purchased from somewhere else. We have got to get A LOT better at developing talent on the line of scrimmage. Tired of this sissy ball ********.

Developing days are gone unless you are a lame school. You think any good iowa OL is going to stay at iowa when they can make twice as much at a school that has a chance?

They all did stay - they were studs last year that could have jumped. I’ll say this, I don’t hear their coach bitching about lack of NIL. I see them going to toe-to-toe with everyone and beating people they should. I see them actually developing their players and finding guys at smaller schools. They had 9 combine invites. I’ll take that lame approach right now.

9 invites and a lame bowl game? No thanks.

Soooo … cool with 2 and an even lamer bowl that we got smoked in vs beating a top 25 team in a better bowl?

None of it matters if you don't make the playoffs. Everything else is just a losers lunch.

I can't even tell you the name of the bowl game that Skers were in this year.

I don’t disagree - but if we come out of our 2026 schedule with 8 regular season wins and close losses to Indiana and Ohio State - I think on the whole that would be a solid season … This was basically the Hawkeyes last year.

I get that...but when fans start celebrating that...they BECOME the iowa fan base and start to be happy with 8 win seasons. I don't want that.

Nice report on EJ

Aside from Love, Reuter’s mock draft has just three other running backs going in the first three rounds: Notre Dame’s Jadarian Price at No. 59 overall, Penn State’s Kaytron Allen at No. 74 and Nebraska’s Emmett Johnson at No. 97.

However, Reuter told Bump and Stacy that he likes what he’s seen from Johnson. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Nebraska star rushed for a Big Ten-leading 1,451 yards, 5.8 yards per carry and 12 touchdowns this past season, while adding 46 catches for 370 yards and three TDs. He finished second in the FBS with 1,821 yards from scrimmage

The Seahawks currently hold the final pick of the second round (No. 64) and the fifth-to-last pick of the third round (No. 96).

ā€œEmmett Johnson from Nebraska doesn’t have a big name nationally, but he’s really fun to watch,ā€ Reuter said. ā€œHis combination of quickness and toughness is really, really good, and I think it could be a top-50 spot for him or late second round. And after some games in the NFL, people may ask, why did he even last that long?ā€

His strength isn’t straight line speed. We knew that. Johnny the Jet supposedly only ran in the 4.5s but he was so damned elusive with elite change of direction. That 40 will hurt EJs draft.
No it won’t. He’ll be a 2 to early 4. His 10 yard and lateral is all that matters for him. He’s running between the tackles and making making people miss.

Here's a fun note about a guy who played for our new DC Aurich last season: Amazing stats

Corbin Smith’s top cornerback in the NFL Draft

ā€œMy number one corner, it’s not one of the guys that’s being picked in the top 10 in all these mock drafts:Chris Johnson from San Diego State. I absolutely love this kid and he screams Mike Macdonald cornerback. He had a 16.7 passer rating against in coverage this year. That is not a typo. 16.7. Four interceptions, a boatload of pass breakups, didn’t allow a single touchdown, and oh, by the way, has a career miss tackle rate under 6%. He is a dog.

ā€œHe gets up field, hits people, very clean tackler, tough-minded, fluid athlete. I’m curious to see how he runs at the combine, but [with] Riq Woolen and Josh Jobe being free agents, that is a natural fit at pick number 32 if he’s there. I could see him being a guy that’s gone much earlier than that, especially if he tests really well in Indianapolis, but I’m a huge Chris Johnson fan.ā€

Corners that lock down WR's but also tackle usually means they are LOOKING to make tackles which is a big deal.

Anyone that played freshmen football (Like I did, humblebrag) knows that DB's are usually huge losers.

It was the Las Vegas bowl where we started a true freshman back up QB, and lost to the number 15 team in the country…ring a bell?

I guess then you better get the word out them. "Nebraska fan says transfer to somewhere else." I'm sure they will hear that and hang on every word.
