Thought we could have a fun space to talk about the draft in general.

I'm gonna be brave and say this isn't a bad take:

If you divorce yourself from the the Alabama/Indiana pre-Saban/Cig, I think it's fair to conclude Simpson was being asked to do a lot more than Mendoza.

Mendoza could easily run into the same problem as JJ McCarthy; his best coaching was in college and he was heavily assisted by a running game advantage he'll never have again.

Mendoza is going to a wretched organization. You win and lose at the same time if your Mendoza. Simpson could end up in Miami or even with the Rams. Interesting that the only GM at Simpson's pro day was the Bears GM. Kind of reminds me of the draft when Josh Allen was supposed to be the #7 QB. I like Klubnik myself. Hoping my Rams get him. Simpson might be the best in the class. But only started 20 games in College.

He was statistically worse than Dylan when he was at Cal. Had less than a 2 to 1 TD/INT ratio. He ran for a combined 200 yards in those two seasons, averaging less than 2 ypc. The offense he ran at Cal was similar to Indiana, he just had a MUCH better team around him at Indiana. It is a very thin qb class and I think that gives the impression that the best qbs must become good NFL qbs. That just won't happen in this class. He shouldn't play for a few years in the NFL to bulk up a bit, and make sure he has the mental part of the game down. He also needs to develop more as a downfield passer, his career was pretty much defined by throwing screens, single read short passing, and hitting guys in man coverage. He won't see any of that next year. Now if he was drafted by the Rams or the Chiefs or a competent organization, it would give him a chance. But he is a TERRIBLE fit for the Raiders. I would bet on him being cut by year 3 but being picked up by a better organization and having a good 2nd run when he is bigger, stronger, and has fewer expectations. Just the cultural problems on the Raiders...the fact that Max Crosby is the face of the team, a new coach, and infinite losing pretty much guarantees failure.

This isn't true, at all.

Raiola's TD:INT ratio is 1.82, Mendoza's at Cal was 1.88.

Raiola averaged 219 passing yards per start, Mendoza averaged 248 passing yards per start at Cal.

I'm shocked you would even mention rushing yards as Raiola is sitting at negative 152.

I can't help but wonder if you have a problem with the fact he's a born again christian who wears it on his sleeve and believes in the traditional family. Dude is nothing like the phantom person you deacribed in your post.

You know as well as I do that being an evangelical Christian doesn't make you a better NFL football player. I do wonder if people give him the benefit of the doubt because he is charismatic, and openly religious...much like Tebow. And I do point out that the Raiders are a terrible fit because of the culture. And he will almost certainly face pressure if he is still openly religious while losing football games. That is why maybe Denver or Kansas City would be a better fit in the long run.

Are you really arguing that the Raiders are going to become a winning team? It starts at the top, Tom Brady is a minority owner who doesn't do daily ownership activities. If he is making ownership and general manager decisions, then they are in a worse position than I thought. Taking the Raiders in an argument is about as bad as thinking any qb in this draft is going to make a meaningful impact in the modern NFL anytime soon. Who is the best qb in the NFL right now? Whomever it is, is completely dependent on a dominant defense and running game, and offensive line. The days of a polished qb, being the centerpiece of an organization are long gone. The qb will go the way of the RB, go out and get dlineman, olineman, a couple of elite WRs, then a workhorse back and then get a qb who can make quick decisions and hand the ball off. That is what Seattle did.

It's fascinating to me. I'm hearing lots of stuff. Tebow but a better passer? One guy transfixed the picture so that it looked like he was throwing right handed and his motion looks a lot better? Said it was a bias against lefties, it just looks odd to us?

Anyway, one thing that caught my attension is if you get him in the 4th round and keep him as a 3rd teamer who might develop, but in the meantime would be unstoppable in the tush push.

If I'm the Jets and he is available, I take Olaivavega Ioane, G, Penn State, at pick 16. I know they signed Dylan Parham from the Raiders but they can move Tippman back to center to replace Myers who is probably a little below average. And build that o-line for heavy formations.

Then when some of the other posters do it, like that numbers guy, it comes off as horrible.

Definitely a low risk proposition as a late round pick. He’ll be on some teams radar and useful as a trading piece, worst case scenario. Could be a lot more.
