If you divorce yourself from the the Alabama/Indiana pre-Saban/Cig, I think it's fair to conclude Simpson was being asked to do a lot more than Mendoza.
Mendoza could easily run into the same problem as JJ McCarthy; his best coaching was in college and he was heavily assisted by a running game advantage he'll never have again.
