NFL Player compensation

Let's say that when Barkley was going to sign with the Eagles that they did not have enough left to cover his desired comp given where they were with the salary cap. Then let's say a group of fans get together and come up with enough to pay him directly if he will sign with the Eagles. So SB would have had two paychecks - one from the Eagles in the cap, and one from a fans "collective". Granted SB can get all the NIL money from commercials, but what I am talking about would be fans collective that would be paying SB enough to cover the shortfall the Eagles could afford.

Not sure why this has not happened before.

Why? Cause if the NFL didn’t the players association probably would. You are correct they can get all the outside endorsements they want but signing a below market is something the union would not allow. They turned down below market value contracts in the past and would again. There’s no guarantee your ‘ collective’ would have the money but the owner does

This could be tried, but there would be a court battle. Hope the collective has some extra money for the litigation.
