NHL Game 7s are the best

The Rangers sucked tonight. Not a good Game 7.
In the NHL, success is attributable in large part to the "buy in" of the team. Will they put their face in front of a flying puck to save a goal. The older, more established teams (Lightening, Rangers, Avalanche, Caps, Pens, Bruins) are all taking a back seat to younger, hungrier teams. It's why there are few older race car drivers. At some point the calculus determines that it's just not worth the pain or risk.

The Devils were definitely the faster team. They continually beat the Rangers to the puck and kept the pressure on.

The devils are not the best team in the NHL. What they do have is youth, tremendous speed and solid stick skills. They came back from a 0-2 start and slowly wore down a decent Rangers team. While I have the utmost respect for Carolina they beat an average Islanders team in 6 games, and two of those games were in OT (I think). The Devils - Hurricanes should be a great series.

What doesn’t, hitting? If that has no part in the game they need to change the rules. That was within the rules of the game.
I am a Devils fan and remember when teams were terrified of this guy

I am an Islanders and even at that, loved watching him play. I once thought he actually killed Bob Bassen with an open ice hit. Destroyed Flatley once as well. Let me see if I can find them. Wonder if they’d be penalties now?

I’d say the Bassen hit is borderline these days. Raised up into the hit so that could be a penalty. Flatley is pretty much the same hit as Trouba’s last night. Hard hit aimed at the center of a guy’s body who shouldn’t have had his head down (especially with Stevens on the ice).

He was my favorite Devil along with Ken Daneyko. I got to go to his jersey retirement game. I was also at game one of the last Devils’ Stanley Cup Championship. Could have had tix for game 7 and I always regret not getting them because the Devils won it at home in game 7.
