lots of intriguing match-ups this week in the last ever week of NIB12 football action.

sterling at sycamore - sterling is 8-0 and looking for their 3rd straight undefeated regular season. sycamore is 6-2 and has an outside shot at the conference title with a little help. sycamore has always played well against sterling, especially at home. this one will feel like a playoff game...and these two teams could very well meet up again in the post-season.

geneseo at dekalb - dekalb is in line for another nib12 east championship. geneseo is 4-4 and needs a win to avoid the program's first losing season since the 60s (no kidding). the leafs were in the same spot last year and pulled off a miracle win over morris in week 9.

rochelle at kaneland - rochelle is 4-4 and needs a win to make the playoffs. kaneland wants a piece of the nib12 east championship and likely will need a win to get it.

lasalle-peru at morris - playing for illinois valley pride. season ends for both teams after friday.

ottawa at yorkville - cover your eyes. this one will be over early.

@Golden Warrior - with all due respect, there is no game on Sterling's schedule that is intriguing. I mean that as a compliment. They're just so much better than everyone they play this year. Not their fault - just how the schedule worked out this season.

I'm a Sterling fan. My girlfriend graduated from Sterling in '94ish (Sarah Snider) and I have a friend who was a good basketball player there (Matt Beck, '90ish).

I can't remember the name of the travel basketball team he played on but met Weston Scission and his mom, also Sarah, I think, at a basketball tournament in Milwaukee last winter. That kid is a live wire. They also had a kid from Rochelle who was really good.

Anyway, small world. I enjoy the Sterling talk/reports on here. Do you happen to know their conference plans by chance?

Yville had 4 turnovers 3 gave Dekalb ball inside Yorkville 10 yard line led to scores.
Dekalb was very fired up and won LOS and had constant pressure, 6 sacks. Like you said... completely different team on turf and especially at home.

I agree with everything but I think Sterling takes the win by 3 touchdowns... they had a rough week at Rochelle with everything that happened to the team but with watching them play last week I think they are back to their regular form...either way they will probably play each other again either in 2nd or quarters if they both make it that far

Yea it would probably be a lot closer of a game I think...always seems to be the second time you play someone

Rochelle-Kaneland & Geneseo-Dekalb: Both games with teams who are in the playoffs and two teams who need to win to make it in. I think between the two Rochelle is more likely to win. But I think Kaneland and Dekalb get it done. First time the Leafs miss the playoffs in 60 years!

Sterling @ Sycamore- I am expecting a good one. Sycamore has traditionally been a tough place for Sterling. Sterling is banged up but getting healthy at the right time. I think Sterling gets it done.

Thanks for keeping me honest. Gold star for you. I thought the WQAD podcast had said playoffs. Must have heard wrong. Either way could be an end to a very long streak.

Lots of good games this week for sure, The Sterling Sucamore game should be good, not sure what Sterling team will show up, after the Rochelle game and losing some of there best players I thought they were done dominating but then they looked awesome against LP, but that was LP and this is Sycamore, Sterling May get 1 starter back with Marquez Williams, I’m thinking they may sit him and bring him in if it’s close, all in all best game of the year, Sterling Sycamore starting to become a good rivalry but will be no more with the ending of the NIB12, betting we see a lot of Sycamore in future playoffs though which will be what this game will be like tomorrow!

I’ll never forget that back and fourth quarter final game between Sterling and Kaneland at Kaneland about 10-15 years ago, double overtime! Great game, Kaneland won

Win or lose, still want shot at Sterling. If you want to get far in 5a, your going to have to beat a "healthy" Sterling. Unfortunately I was not around for those long ago games when Kaneland won...I just have memories of losing

If your talking about Marquez, they expected him back by playoffs, I’m guessing he sits unless it’s a close game, if they don’t need him they will probably rest him. Just my 2cents

I’m talking about the one for disciplinary reasons, apparently he’s back from what I was told, we shall find out shortly and I assume Marquez will be used minimally unless he’s absolutely needed.

Nope Marquez didn’t even dress which I was pretty he wouldn’t but the other one did dress but never played so I really don’t know what happened to them tonight... I hope they get it together quick

don't know what the kid was accused of but whatever it was, it sounded like that it was serious enough to be kicked off the team - now he's back? that's not a good look. is winning more important? i saw an older post, from what seems to be a knowledgeable sterling fan (can't find it now), that stated with fair certainty that the player would not be back. does that stuff (reinstatement after dismissal) make the other kids question what is going on?

I honestly think whatever is going on with that situation is distracting and confusing the other players they aren’t focused on football just off the field drama

Well I don't live and die with Sterling, I just root for them. My perception is that their celing has been the quarterfinals. But, that's a fun challenge in my view and an awesome goal. Who's going to be the class to bust through? Great motivation for them.

Last night Sycamore was a lot better than Sterling they did exactly what they wanted to do... I would like to think that they will meet again sometime soon whether it’s 2nd round or quarters... Sterling should have at least one if not both of their running backs back so I’m gonna say it will be a lot closer than last night but Sycamore is a solid all around team than could potentially give a lot of trouble to teams that underestimate them.

Not trying to take anything from Sycamore, they are always good and seem to peak in week 9 for the playoffs, what you have to realize though is Sterling was not playing and holding starters that are banged up for the playoffs, it should have never been a blow out like that, Sterling played like they didn’t care, I really hope Sycamore beats Montini so we can play you again, and I think Sycamore can pull the upset, your flying low on the radar, you have all year and your probably in the top 5 best teams in the state in 5A

Sounds like Schlemmer sat out quite a few starters that were a little banged up just to make sure they were ready for playoffs. Either way hopefully they come back hungry and ready to achieve the ultimate goal
