So Beran out scores Young. Did Nicholson get any tick? Where is our lineup minutes count? Does that only count for conference games or games we lose? Love this in game threads.

Kind of a weird one. NO had a 24-4 run sandwiched around the half. Outside that, we won 79-43.

For what it’s worth, Michigan and Iowa are holding on to narrow leads at halftime right now. Makes me feel better about NU’s sluggish start.

Oh, and Nebraska lost again. 1-2.

That 24-4 run is my biggest take away from the game. Not good looking to when we play up in the BIG.

That man St. Hilaire or whatever was a beast. Very few B1G guards can fill it up like he did for 35 minutes tonight. He was unconscious.

Every BiG team would have struggled against St. Hilaire; the guy was insane. Our depth helped us win this game. We beat guys with very solid talent (all D1 transfers) because of our depth.

The 24 was ugly, but not as big a deal as the 4 and the fact it all occurred going into and coming out of halftime.

BTW … St. Hilaire is a senior that has never had a scoring binge like this.

Collins said he was a super senior and 24 y.o.

had the game if his life, but will probably leave that kind of mark against many teams this season. He’s surrounded by physical and athletic upper class men. Will be interesting to see who they surprise this season and what their record is at the end of the season.

Will be a fun season. Wonder how snarky you will be in B1G season. Oh yeah, that’s when you rail these guys as enjoying the losses…. At least you win regardless if NU wins….

I hope Nicholson becomes a great NU player but if he transfers, I hope he becomes a great player. Kinda hard to evaluate a player on the bench. And Beran is really doing great things out there…. Who knows - maybe Nich is Cher 2.0, maybe not. Seems like we have seen what Beran is.

Ah, the ole, we don’t know if he is any good because he didn’t see the floor.

Actually Bob, I was the one saying I didn’t think we had enough talent to make the tourney. Still think that will be the outcome. However, the team has played hard. Boo has looked way better ( notice the peanut gallery has backed off him) and Berry is now a factor. The Freshman might contribute. So just maybe I did miss the mark. We’ll see. I would like to think I am balanced in my posts on NU sports. I think you know I am not Pollyanna on all things NU like some others. I am also not all hate like others who show up only when things are going bad.

So my prediction could be wrong. Guess I win in that case. One thing I do know, after the first loss this board will light up with 1) CCC didn’t play the line up he should have, 2) Beran doesn’t provide anything, 3) Boo and/or Chase need to stop playing hero ball, 4) we aren’t going to beat B1G teams playing like this, 5) CCC doesn’t develop players, 6) some Freshman at Podunc U is averaging 8 points and 5 rebounds and he is smaller than Nicholson and of course 7) CCC sucks. Like the sun coming up in the morning.

The team won’t be undefeated and will lose a nonconference shortly. So I ask you Bob, who actually wins regardless? Me or the posters that rail on everyone and everything when the team goes South.

You'll have to wait until the first NU loss for old BobIGNORE to reply.....

Based on the time I’ve seen Nicholson on the floor in games so far this year he appears to just be a developmental big. He’s not some all big 10 player that CC is just refusing to play to po part of the fan base…

you don’t have to look too far south to find another big 10 school with the same type of 7 footer on their roster- lieb I do believe

My biggest take away is they weathered that run and found the will to still win in blowout fashion. The last couple NU teams would have just said tonight isn’t our night and accepted the L. There will be nights when you face a team that gets hot or with a player that is on fire, that’s college basketball- it’s about how you respond.

True. But I believe his "poor shooting" was heavily influenced by the last 10 minutes of the game. Trying to do too much and whatnot
He was trying to do too much from the start- just a lot of it was going in. Second half we did a much better job of getting a big over to cut off his drives and then he had a much tougher time scoring. In the last 5-10 minutes seemed like he was just playing hero ball and forcing a bunch of stuff that was low percentage.

won’t be a shock to see him be one of the top scorers in the southland conference or whatever conf they are in. NO will likely be playing for a spot in the dance come March and if they make it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them take down a higher seed with him scoring 25+

according to ESPN he’s 24 years old

NU's offense is a thing of beauty. 6'10" players with dribble exchanges 30' from the basket puts extreme pressure on the defense

I wish they would keep the stats on the corners of the big screens. Whenever I look up to see how many fouls on a guy or how many points someone has its not there
I asked the scorekeeper at halftime why the stats are not being shown. He said the NCAA has made all conferences switch to the same software system but there are tons of bugs. I hope they can get it fixed by Big Ten games. He said it's not just a problem in Evanston but all over.

I don't know if everything is the NCAA's fault, but it sure is easy to get whiny fans off your back by blaming the NCAA. I've seen enough technical problems at the old Welsh-Ryan and the new that I'm not completely buying this buck-passing.

Every home game this year has had the same issue. Seems like it comes and goes. Hard to believe it’s that hard to display some basic stats on a scoreboard. Thinking they’ve overcomplicated the process at some point

One benefit of BTN+ is being able to get a glimpse at what happens during timeouts and halftime.

There was a lot of positive ruckus on the NU bench during the game's final timeout. What was that all about. Looked like everyone was in a good mood and having a great time. Audige was in the mix. The team has a lot of spirit and positive chemistry right now. Hopefully that will continue.

At halftime, Beran was shooting 3s from the left wing and missing them consistently. He then swished several right in a row. Would be excellent if something clicked and built confidence that he can be a great player.

The stats are also not getting to espn.com, nusports.com or anywhere else consistently intra-game.
I usually use ESPN but have had to bounce to others in the last couple of games as the stats were messed up. At a point not even the score was updating.

Beran made 14 of 18 three point shots between when I started watching him and the end of halftime warmups. That's pretty typical for what I've seem from him in the warmup setting, so he's a plenty good shooter. I agree that when he starts believing they're going in during games, we'll be happy that he's on the floor!

Multiple three point threats on the floor at one time create big defensive problems for the opposition.

But he was also shooting from the same spot on the floor and was not in any hurry to get his shots off. Not quite game-like conditions. I think he's a pretty good shooter. He will hopefully be able to knock down a decent percentage of wide open 3's, which may enough.

When he was recruited, though, I was hoping he would be a guy who could come off of screens and even create his own shot. Highlight tapes are highlight tapes for a reason but there was some video of him pulling up and knocking down mid-range jump shots. That would be a huge addition to his game. Just doesn't look like he even considers that as an option any more. And he has not developed any post moves so his offensive game is pretty limited.

I do think he's a better help defender than people give him credit for.

Collins addressed the last timeout during the post game interview and said he was pumped up with the team's play and was expressing that.
