Are we just kidding ourselves that we have the money to compete with the big boys? Some people say we need to start winning and the money will come in. I see Vanderbilt basically bought a whole team so did Indiana. IMO we just don’t have several large donors. You can to a fund raise drive but how much are they going to get from the average fan? In today’s college football is he who has the gold rules and we don’t have that

The problem is no one knows.

So a kid can end up at Vandy and we might think Vandy outbid us but in the end, right now, it is all just a guessing game and the only ones that know for sure are the players/agents.

What we think was a 400,000 offer might not even be close to that.

If by "compete" you mean a consistent playoff team with a shot at the title, then no. One offs can happen, but they will be rare. We are at the top of the second tier, though.

nil has to be incentive based or it becomes communism..

I would say td = 100 grand

first down = 5 grand

then just split that in accord to the position difficulty...

holgerson said NU has a army of people working for it, so I'm preaty sure they could figure out a fair system based on output and incoming donations...and the beauty is NU can't bs itself because it will become evident what % of the money needs to go where...if I'm a right guard and I see Pritchett making 100k for a personal foul..I might not try as hard, where's the incentive?

it's no longer amature sports

Just add another property tax Nebraska is already highest in the country what is a little more going to bother
Part of what makes Nebraska football unique is that it represents the entire state without rival. And, we are not Wyoming. Or Hawaii. Or Connecticut. Or Maine. Okay, so maybe not that unique. But we do care about football more than them.

Anyhow, there would be less resistance to an NIL surcharge in Nebraska than anywhere else.

Dillingham is not leaving his hometown and his dream school. Especially when he has them in the playoffs last year and in a much more manageable conference.

Little bit strange but Minnesota only has the gophers in Div 1 football. But regardless you are correct that there would be less resistance here.

I’ve discussed this with people…..fair but modest base salary of $500,000 for head coach and then $1 million per victory over FBS team, $500k if FCS opponent. Win the playoff and championship and your coach can make $16 million and it would be well earned. Create similar structure for assistants with scaled pay.

We do know. Since the day that TO’s recruits walked off campus, we have rarely competed for championships and experienced incredible lows. There is a reason TO used the excuse of his heart to step away from coaching and step into the much less stressful world of being a congressman.

Indiana didn’t buy a team. Their coach identified guys under the radar that he coaches up and motivates. And the guys a winner. Google him.

Look I went to the game last night, Minnesota introduces each of the starters before the game. Most come from Minnesota followed by Wisconsin Illinois & Iowa .

They have skilled players from Georgia and Florida- one from Cal. These are not 5 star guys and yet they beat us like a drum.

Not a 30-40 million dollar roster, they just recruit and develop the players. OLD school .

I'm not interested in being subject to one penny of an NIL surcharge.

Schools like Vanderbilt have a large bank of wealthy donors. Now that it’s legal they’ll step up

dr. tom put his time in and more...I'd say a very well deserved retirement..he was in the top 25 consistently twice as long as saben...thats would mean saban + saben = dr. tom, mathematically speaking

I am not saying it would actually fly, just that Nebraska would have less resistance than any other place due to rabid fan base that is undivided state-wide.
Eventually people will figure out this football program is a money pit with an endless hunger. Unless and until Nebraska hires a proven winner as head coach, it will languish in mediocrity. I don't do mediocrity.

Maybe have their main incentives tied to OL/DL performance. And if they give up more than 5 sacks a game they have to give money back. What good is multimillion dollar skill positions when we don’t have time to run a play?

I’m done with nil. I was giving 600 a month, but getting destroyed by minny was unacceptable in year 3.

Not gonna happen, there can never be real accountability in the folks Matt hires.
Only when his job is threatend will he make necessary changes. That's the CEO mentality in today's world.

Tampa, that's the ONLY way these top down people will begin to understand. And I'm not advocating that, people are free to spend their money any way they choose. A drying up of regular NIL donors may force them to take a real look at the cause and effect of poor coaching.

Maybe they say, "Looks like we have a problem in the OL and DL, you think it's the coaching? Do we really need 18 WR's when we only play 5-6 a game? Maybe if we invest less in guys that may or may not be involved in a play 4-5 times a game, and invest that money in guys who are involved every play? Wow, what a novel idea."
